  • United States Natural Gas Fund: A Contrarian Perspective [View article]
I suppose or Mad Hedge is very excited about his point of view with lots of free time.....so just give him space.
Fred Pollack's piece is really informative and easy to understand. Thanks Fred.
UNG is just not an interesting "investment" right now, and I still don't understand how Mr McLoed can be long UNG!
Gas producers and service industries might well be worth looking into in light of increasing industrial activities.

  • How Natural Gas Can Save the U.S. Economy [View article]
Excellent and informative post and comments!
Yesterday Mad Jim weighed in with comments and the question re Congress subsidizing NG as well as an interview with Andrew Littlefair of CLNE (www.cnbc.com/id/32375664) who build nat gas filling stations etc. It seems NG for big trucks (18-wheelers) rather than cars could be a real game changer...and that this concept is getting traction in Congress and beyond.
CLNE is up 9% and UNG is down again ....

  • Bullish Divergence in Natural Gas [View article]
Thanks for the weather link - it is indeed insightful! What it means for UNG is not so clear. There is something not so logical going on here. With all the noise about independence of foreign oil when we have this super abundance of NG....

  • Watch for an Opportunity to Invest in China [View article]
Cool general purpose writing and good try on "Chinese Wisdom".
But I'm a bit confused. You seem to be saying that the Chinese economy, and I assume their Market, is greater than sliced tofu, but end up saying "don't run out and buy now". So when? And what? And I don't see any "disclosure".
Do you indeed not own any Chinese equity?
Also the S&P is at 933.....

  • With Boone Pickens' 'windmill in every backyard' (except his) plan on the backburner, Ray Harvey makes an awesome case against Pickens' calls for massive subsidization of the wind-power industry, and explains why the public "hasn't even begun to grasp nuclear energy."  [View news story]
OK so the ol' T-bone was "wrong" about wind power in terms of grid, time and economy. I'm sure the other ol' billionaires, like Warren and Soros are/were wrong too, from time to time and often big time at that. But if we go a bit beyond the personal... and
Hrrmmm, come to think, they are still billionaires, no?
What, really, in addition to and beyond the wind energy, I think Mr. Pickens is pointing out, is the importance for us of truly to consider our energy dependency, and therefore financial and strategic dependency re energy.
.... including our continually sending mega $ to often "unfriendly" xyz countries, especially when we now apparently have such mind-boggling abundance of NatGas here in the USA!
Of course, it's not only coming from him. All of a sudden we now hear that our country has more natgas/energy in terms of BTU than the Saudis have oil!
    That's great!
To me, this Is also, seriously, if ever a "stop everything!?" - an "IBM' moment to actually "think"... and then think deeply... and, oy-oy, even act. !!!?
Why are we still talking nuke, solar, expensive batteries??? if we have all this cheap natgas energy?

  • Interview with Warren Liu, Author of 'KFC in China: Recipe for Success' [View article]
This is a "wow" piece of info! that I think should be required reading - and very serious thinking - for every US Govt. employee including Mr. President.
There are some real conceptual golden nuggets here for all of us.
Hurrah for KFC and creativity! And down with bureaucracy that stand in the way of real progress.

  • Sector Performance Since May 8th [View article]
Hmmm....to quote a recent US President: "I knew that...!"
Most readers of SA actually know already what happened yesterday!
I think it's time that you now finally live up to this: "Think B.I.G., by Bespoke Investment Group, provides some of the most original content and intuitive thinking on the Street."
The piece above, and many, many others certainly in my mind, do not live up to the quote above. What comes to mind is hardly respect.....but just ill disguised spam!
Minimalism is a 1960's art movement. It belongs to art museums.
I challenge you to, in every posting from now on, actually "provide some of the most original content and intuitive thinking on the Street."

  • A livid Hank Greenberg on CNBC says he's lost over $2B in personal wealth due to the collapse of AIG (AIG). (earlier)  [View news story]
If you can overcome your "shadenfreude" for a second - there is something here, an energy perhaps, that could be positive for the future. That could be we will never want to have an AIG again, ever. Laws & regulation + transparency that are enforced might be the medicine. So we can choose from loosing 2B or "socialism".

  • Thoughts on Last Night's Speech by the President [View article]
Fred, I don't care if you are not a financial rock star - these point are good reminders for what was actually said. And it is disappointing.
Our problem is the economy right now, stupid! and with that comes banks, jobs, housing and all the rest. And it's a global problem. Not to say a catastrophe-in-the-hap... NOW! So that is what he has to deal with. Hard and fast.
Save all those big smiles, waving hands, handshakes etc. and use the energy better.
