  • Apple's iPhone 5 Chip Design Seriously Impresses - Is The Competition Asleep? [View article]
Some quotes below from WSJ and Engadget:
--CPU: modified dual core compliant with A9 instruction set, higher clock speed up to 1.2 GHz, theoretically (still) less powerful than A9 quad-core
    --3 graphic cores
--manufacturing done at Samsung plant (bearing all signatures of such)
-Separately, the NVIDIA Tegra 3 has been boosted to 1.6 GHz on all four cores, as well as 1.7 GHz for the fifth “ninja core” that does the simpler tasks at hand to preserve battery life. The folks from Engadget uncovered this FCC filing earlier today so now we just need to wait for HTC to make a formal announcement.

I'm not surprised at the news on the A6 chipset, but I'm surprised there is no real reference made here in the article that the reference being used by competitors on the Tegra 3 is no longer current. The iPhone is still the standard, not denying that, but it's not because of this current chipset. And that's why this 'mapgate' is going to undercut the projected sales of the iPhone 5 as it has so far. Don't be surprised btw that there will be new benchmarks set by the Tegra 3 iteration in the upcoming HTC update on the One X. Sure, the competition will be stiff, but Nvidia is and will be making critical moves in the market this quarter and next that will match and exceed the Qualcomm S4 at the very least . . and the 28nm node will be implemented in the Tegra series by early next year.
