In Partnership With Microsoft, RIM Launches BlackBerry Business Cloud Services [View article]
A MSFT takeover wouldn't entirely surprise me, though I believe Heins is attempting to pave the way for RIMM to regain its own competitive edge. Market cap of MSFT is nearly 250B, with RIMM at almost 9B. MSFT could probably negotiate a price between 12-15B, around 5-6% of its own market value.
Playbook 2.0 Set To Move RIM Shares Higher [View article]
Well established position, Chris. I feel the plummet RIMM suffered last week was an overreaction to the hiring of a new, internal CEO. I know many speculators were hoping for a buyout and a quick gain to $20(+), but the company is far from finished. Playbook 2.0 and anticipation of BB10 release could really run-up the numbers in February.
Will The New CEO Of Research In Motion Strike Fear Into Apple, Google And Microsoft? [View article]
No offense here, but this is very cliche - "I love Apple and I own $X shares of Apple. I will keep investing in Apple because no one likes RIMM products and RIMM will continue to lose market share all the way to bankruptcy."
This line of thinking contains some rather ridiculous assumptions and predictions.
You may, personally, have an intense loyalty toward Apple, which is fine. However, RIMM products are preferred and appreciated by more people than you must "know." Just one example:
As far as expenses are concerned, many corporations pay almost double for the iPhone when compared to the Blackberry.. and BB can certainly can be more than adequate for business necessities while proving to be a cost saver.

I wondered if the "rumors" were the reason for the spike today. I expected the substantial gain for APPL after earnings news, but RIMM was a pleasant surprise. I too expect a sale or buyout before the company would ever dissolve to forced chapter 7. The rewards heavily outweigh the risk in my opinion here.

Not to mention.. PlayBook 2 has the ability to "bedazzle" consumers more than some are willing to concede. Everyone indeed focused on bashing Blackberry in 2011, and not only do I expect that trend to reverse by EOY, I expect Apple to recognize them as an international growing threat.. p.s. Take the "Apple planning to buyout RIM" rumors with a grain of salt..

Interesting proposition, Karl. Do you feel that Google would hesitate to consider a buyout if QNX was their only interest? If Google buys RIMM, even at this point, they're looking at well over $20 a share.. From a financial investment perspective, that price tag for QNX, etc. (whatever Google can use) may be a tad expensive.
