  • Why The McDumpster Meat Scandal In China May Be A Bigger Deal Than You Think [View article]
As a to-be mid-term investor, I'll wait for a 3-7% turnaround from the current bottom before accumulating MCD.

Based on Trefis estimates, MCD is valued at $102ish: http://bit.ly/1nA6Sk2

Will wait for their revision based on the most recent quarterly results.

One might ask, how risky is TWTR at this moment?

One clue is by looking at it's Implied Volatility which is currently at a whopping 93.87% (source: thinkorswim platform). TWTR is 7.8 times more risky than the S&P 500 (note that the max risk based on IV is 8.3 times). Reference: http://bit.ly/1b1CdTp

Someone earlier mentioned about AMZN, it's IV is currently 37.37%, ie. 3.1 times riskier than S&P 500.

Even the volatile TSLA has lower IV than TWTR, ie. 67.48%

Alex, you said "selling short a momentum name has quickly backfired time and time again"

Momentum works both ways, up and down.

Therefore, buying a momentum name would also backfired (during a downwards momentum). The momentum that we are talking about now is the counter that you are discussing about, ie. TWTR which came down from 74.73 just 3 weeks ago to 58 now. That's a whopping -22.3% drop within 3 weeks! In other words, those who short at the 70s are up by about 20%

It's good time to revisit lessons from the dot com bubble.

At this moment, a long in TWTR is definitely riskier than a short, esp. when TWTR fundamentals sucks big time, both relatively and absolutely.

TWTR is neither a value nor growth stock.

  • My Dividend Portfolio: Q3 2013 Update [View article]
Yes, KO may be a good buy in the intermediate future.

In the short term, we should continue to watch prices which insiders are selling their holdings:

    Date, Insider, Shares, Transaction, Value
    1. Aug 8 2013, ROBINSON JAMES D IIIDirector, 6,200, Sale at $40.06 per share, $248,372
    2. May 7 2013, SMITH BRIAN JOHNOther, 149,268, Sale at $42.25 per share, $6,306,573
    3. Apr 9 2013, FAYARD GARY POfficer, 224,000, Automatic Sale at $41 per share, $9,184,000

Kind of reminds me of Enron (I know, KO is not the same)... years ago when I looked at Enron insider transactions, it was a similar downwards selling pattern as well - a lot more aggressive for Enron case.

The new "Microsoft Surface 2" will be another write-off because it is running off Windows 8 RT. It's very hard for "Microsoft Surface Pro 2" to fly due to better alternatives in the market.

You may find Trefis's analysis on MSFT with specific product lines vs %contribution to be insightful. http://bit.ly/178MtWW

  • Yields Of 5.3%-23.2%: How Investors Can Turn Gold Into Even More Gold [View article]
I got to know more about GLDI from Bill Luby newsletter (dated (21 Aug 2013) where he said:
"In the commodity space, I continue to favor of holding covered call versions of the gold (GLDI) and silver (SLVO) ETPs, which continue to be top performers."

The trading range on 20 Aug was rather huge, High = 16.38 and Low = 15.53, while the most other HL trading range is a fraction of that... what happened on 20 Aug?
