  • Bill Bishop On Apple: We Need More Mojo [View article]
Mr Wolf notes that "As even Bishop admits, the iPhone is not "cool" anymore."

    "As even Bishop admits..." ???

Perhaps if Mr. Bishop worked for Apple or for China Mobil, or if he had executed a survey of humanity, his comment would be relevant.

  • The Apple Comeback Begins [View article]
While I am a card carrying Apple fayBoy (since the 1980's), Apple's "next big thing" has NEVER been greeted by the press or Wall Street as a positive. The iPod, the iPhone and the iPad in turn were considered a joke by many and dismissed as non-starters. I can only presume that the arrival of, say, a 4K HD TV from Apple with a selling price of $4k would similarly be laughed at. Now, next year, when Apple is selling Millions of them each quarter, the mob will get the message that consumers (yea, the folks who actually buy these things) like the new 4K format, and would rather spend their $4K at the Apple store, for a product that "simply works". Next 12 months looks tough for Apple's stock, since they are only making cash, not future hype required from investors. Meanwhile AMZN loses money and has a 137x P/E.

  • Analysts argue Apple/China Mobile deal still a matter of time [View news story]
I'd love to see the press release where either Apple or CHL ever stated a deal date. It has, as usual, been another case of the Anal-ists declaring their desire and then pounding Apple when Apple does not comply with their wishes.

  • Android Gains Even More On iOS [View article]
To all Apple-fanboys like me: keep quiet! Let me get another few weeks of cheap share prices before the Dec quarter closes out. That will help Apple buy back shares on the cheap, also. shhhhhh !

oh, and I LOVE that android USB-stick media player news. Perhaps that is where IDC got their millions of "white box" tablets from.

  • Stop The Insanity: Apple Doesn't Have An 'iPad Problem' [View article]
Ah, a sane Apple post on seekingAlpha. Just might stay signed in for a while. I bailed out of seekingAlpha months ago after a barrage of Apple-Hate posts being promoted by the seekingAlpha editors. Perhaps the editorial board are not short sellers after all.

  • Apple - Time To Take Profits As It Cedes Computing Market To Google [View article]
mc19919 states that "MSFT/AAPL will eat GOOG lunch". I agree. When Samsung and HTC move off the Android platform to a stable, non-fragmented and hardware-funded OS such as Tizen, Android's "market share" will dwindle quickly. Microsoft will capitalize on their Nokia acquisition and deploy their own the Apple converged ecosystem model. Google will do likewise, of course, with Android and Motorola, but they the Android market will suddenly find itself with a much smaller share after a year or two.

  • The Default Has Already Begun [View article]
Obama refuses to Negotiate when the "negotiations" are aimed at dismissing a law passed by Congress and Vetted by the US Supreme Court. His duty is to uphold the law, not dismiss them when blackmailed. Obama was re-elcted President of the United States within the past year on a platform to bring forward a National Health Care system. The Red states don't want to comply with Lincoln's agenda... I mean Obama's National Vote.

  • Apple's Huge Ecosystem Blunder [View article]
The article raises some valid concerns, and relates some interesting analogies. Being a 30-year Apple fan boy, I am a bit myopic (aside from actually being optically myopic).

But I must protest on one often chanted point: Android. You state that "Apple is clearly losing the world-wide "ecosystem" war to Google's Android." I say hogwash. Android uses an emulator to run Java applications, a piece of intellectual property of Oracle. On the 11th, Android/Samsung pundits said "who needs 64-bits; can't use it unless handlign >4GB of memory". Again, hogwash, and sour grapes, because Android will likely never benefit from a 64 bit platform because the emulator and Java don't have the capabilities of using all the elaborate 64-bit facilities for math an code optimizations. Apple is releasing 64-bit iOS and the libraries to support it.

Android has already become a highly fractured ecosystem. The handset makers are spinning out their own "enhanced" Android, which means users can't upgrade to the latest and greatest from Google. On the other side, note that hundreds of millions of iOS users will be upgrading to 7 over the next few weeks. THAT is ecosystem.

Android software deployment typically means hundreds of builds to reach the entire "Ecosystem" of Android - iOS requires but a few. Software vendors are rewarded for all their Android work with far less $$$ than their Apple efforts.

Most daunting for Android is Samsung's proclaimed intention to move from Android to their own software "Tizen", leaving all their current handsets as boat anchors, and all software investments by 3rd parties irrelevant for Samsung devices going forward . So much for ecosystem. see http://bit.ly/162lfkh

  • China Mobile Deal Will Be Big For Apple, But Not That Big [View article]
China..... iPhones are MADE in CHINA. Apple can and will likely leverage that "local" effect to save everybody some $$$ and still have great margin. And Chinese will be buying a MADE in CHINA product, not one make in Korea.

  • Apple: Still No. 1 But Slipping Fast [View article]
I stopped reading in the first paragraph, where the author mis-typed a word: "Apple is heading towards the same faith in tablet market as it met in the smartphone market". Perhaps it was a freudian slip, but then again, many Android followers are certain that all Apple iHolders are buying on FAITH.

Again, the old $-Share vs unit-Share conversation. So what. Ill stick with the profitable approach of quality and ease-of-use.

  • Can Apple Get Back To $700? [View article]
Interesting and pragmatic appraisal of the situation. My only observation is that a game-changing iTV from Apple would not be a ancient 1080i HD, but be a Ultra-high-definition television, @ 3840×2160, which is a full 4x the current resolution. This was the resolution used in all the huge banners flown over the Moscone Center hallways during the recent Apple developers conference. The new Mac Pro will be supporting displays of that resolution out of the box. We just have seen none of them yet, but there is ample proof of Apple's commitment to them. 3840×2160 TVs are currently going for $4k ++. I predict Apple will deliver one - a premium one - at or above that price. The market pundits will laugh and say that consumers won't buy a $4K TV, then the consumers ail prove them wrong.

  • Apple: The Dangers Of Using Bad Data To Calculate Only One Metric [View article]
Interesting to see there is so much retoric regarding Apple's secrecy. From the perspective of a company who has seen a former board member (Google) and its major supplier turn on it and slavishly replicate its Next Great Thing, it seems prudent they keep their mouths shut and their IP heavily guarded.

  • Amazon: Its Business Model Explained [View article]
"Many companies in this day and age operate on a quarter-to-quarter basis. But Amazon doesn't. "

Congratulations to Jeff that he has the following of a large investor community that will let him continue with his 1997 "mandate". Meanwhile, every other public company is being held accountable for profits month-to-month, with hellatious outcomes if they fail to report consistent real profit growth.

Apple PE (16.23) is being hounded by folks who insist that the profits can't last through next year. AMZN PE (-616.96) is being propped up by folks who insist the profits will come.... in another 17 years, perhaps?

1997... that was 17 years ago!!!!!

  • Apple Hedge Fund Expectations Boosted By Evidence Of China iPhone Distribution Deal [View article]
Can you say "Repeat Customer"? Yes, there will be a "saturation" effect, but phones do get recycled for the latest version. By the time 20% of Chinese wireless customers have an iPhone, the ones that buy this month will be trading up. iPhones customers have proven to be loyal.
