I wish Mr. Ridenour well. Likely its a heck of a blow for him in the short-term. All those dreams of seeing UQM through to profitability.

8-K indicates "its board of directors has removed Eric Ridenour as President and Chief Executive of the Company, effective July 20, 2015."

I like that better than him just leaving on his own, perhaps because the ship is going nowhere.

Thanks HTL. I think you are right about the reasons for better claimed efficiency, but I wonder about battery weight as well.
For the extended range product, Proterra chose NMC chemistry. BYD appears married to their propriety Lithium-ion Iron-Phosphate (Proterra's battery agnosticism would appear to be a point in their favor).

Seeking to compare the two, I found the following: "This may sound only as good as the most recent LiFePO4, but NMC is smaller, and is not as fussy about keeping the individual cells balanced"

I wonder if NMC compares favorably on weight? Anyone know?

To compare apples to apples with competitor ebuses from BYD and New Flyer would be interesting and I've tried to do it but still lack data.

More Proterra info in the press:

"Mayor Robert Reichert said buying the bus shouldn’t hinge on getting a $14 million grant that will be awarded later this year.

The bus could be purchased for about $669,000, and one charging station would cost $350,000. The buses the MTA now uses cost $430,000 each, and the authority spends from $800,000 to $1 million in fuel costs each year.

Officials have said they’re in the exploration phase of the electric bus process.

“Even if we miss the grant, we can’t give up finding a way to finance this locally,” Reichert said."

Proterra -- which says its buses are at least 15 percent more efficient than other electric buses -- projects $484,000 in savings over a 12-year period compared to a diesel bus.

For what its worth, I think the evidence is that Proterra will contribute more to the UQM top line in the last half of the current calendar year than it did the first half.

Articles this week point to Proterra delivering 20-50 buses this year (articles contradict each other) and having delivered 20-30 in 2014. In my tracking of the company, I don't think they've delivered more than 10 so far in 2015.

They have over 100 firm orders with the bulk of those to be delivered in 2016 and perhaps a few not until 2017.

Yes, and don't forget the energy services application, which is very intriguing but also very opaque at this point.

They use one 220 Kw drive motor per bus and impact to UQM I expect to be minor for the rest of the year, no more than it was in 2104. 2016 and beyond though I am very optimistic about as far as revenue from Proterra.

Don't miss this new article on Proterra from Fortune:
    http://tinyurl.com/o9d...

Lots of interesting tidbits, including the option of buying the bus and leasing the battery (never heard that from Proterra before and I like it: should fit well with the way bus owners do their budgets already--especially buyers who don't qualify for federal grants) and news of a pursuit of the corporate market (Bay area buses first) and theme parks and universities.

Lots of other new articles on Proterra worth reading out there on google today too!
