Axion PbC article was posted today at Fleets & Fuels!
    http://bit.ly/126ZKmy

The article contains no new information but hey its publicity and it highlights the NS sale--even in the title.

Fleets & Fuels calls itself "the ultimate industry resource for those looking to stay on top of breaking news and current events within the transportation and alternative fuels industries"

thotdoc, right on man! I like all of your points. This is a revolutionary product and its progress is slow as molasses, but there is progress in most every direction and the story is intact.
Even better than intact. BMW is introducing the company to its battery suppliers and saying "work with this newbie." I'm enthused!

That said, I agree that more waiting is on tap.

A typical transit bus in the US burns 10 to 15 thousand gallons annually--at a price somewhere north of $3 per gallon currently.

For routes with 4 or more stops per mile, 30% fuel savings would be routine on a hybrid. I'd expect an Axion equipped one would do a bit better. I'd double your savings to $12,000 annually. And don't forget brake life savings. Then one needs to put a price on cleaner air and less CO2 in the atmosphere.

I hope Vani is talking to the engineers at Hometown Trolley.

Check this out! A hybrid bus project using lead-acid batteries.
    http://bit.ly/1AR56jG

I fear it will not be successful unless they get Axion inside. AGM batteries not likely to stand up to the necessary regen.

Perhaps Vani would make a point of calling the manufacturer.

As I sniff around the project appears to be delayed. But there is an update as of August 1. No doubt the testing is not going so well :-(

The project claims to be based on a lead-acid hybrid bus in Traverse City. I found that bus on eBay and it only has 4400 miles and is for sale for the price of the 48 Odyssey AGM batteries it uses:

Bob Lutz is hawking plug-in trucks from Via Motors and speaking to the virtue of heavy hybrids:
    http://bit.ly/XgXHUH
"If I had my time again at GM then I would have started with the Cadillac Escalade for the range-extender technology, and brought the Volt in later," he said.

"The more gas-guzzling the vehicle, the more economic sense of electrifying it."

"Car companies need to get their minds on that: electrifying [a smaller car] that uses virtually no fuel anyway and then lumping a huge premium on it to cover the battery costs is nonsensical. Why bother?"

Series vs. Parallel: Take a look at Parker RunWise (series) vs. Eaton HLA (parallel)
Parker has a 40% or more reduction in fuel use on garbage trucks. Eaton was saving 7% on garbage trucks and pulled their parallel product from the market.

Axion could buy the eBay bus for a song. Modify the BMS for PbC and show it off at trade shows along with independent testing results.

    >We're nowhere near as good or as competent as >Eaton, but we really don't have to be that good.

On the contrary, you have to be better than the Eaton hybrid, which, as I recall, proved to have 12% better fuel economy than its non-hybridized competition.

Perhaps matching 12% but being significantly cheaper and just as durable would be "better" enough.
