  • The Divide Between Smart Money And Public Investors [View article]
QQQ has a PE of 16.9. That is probably overvalued. Not sure that translates into the rest of the market being overvalued.

  • Positive Commodity ETF Flows Despite Continued GLD Liquidations, Energy Funds Underperform [View article]
10 year TIPS real rates went positive to 0.03%. If you're holding gold as a long term inflation hedge, TIPS may be a better option than gold if you plan to hold to maturity.

  • Cyclical Securities: Too Early? [View article]
I expect commodities prices have been driven by "new toy" syndrome with commodities ETFs. I would expect that, as TIPS yields enter positive territory, many investors who entered commodities looking for a hedge against inflation will bail out.

  • Sovereign Rates Suggest Further Fall In The Euro [View article]
Huh. I'm not seeing ny evidence of a flight from the dollar. There may be a flight from the Euro going on, but I suspect tht has more to do with the EU allowing a breach of deposit insurance in Cyprus than anything else.

So your advice for the short term would be to short gold and buy financials?

How much of that is seasonal? Strikes me that the ag goods numbers might have something to do with planting.

  • There Is No Alternative? That's The Dumbest Thing I Ever Heard [View article]
Doesn't the Shiller P/E ratio look back at the very high PE ratios that occurred in the 2008/2009 crash (S&P had a PE of something like 70 on Jan 1, 2009)?

Um, I don't think the commodities market is the best place to be for a consistent return on investment.

Because inflation is what causes you to take out the money from under the mattress and invest it in more productive assets.

BTW: It was the oil embargo of the 1970s not LBJ that produced the hyperinflation of the 1970s. I suspect I know which book you re getting the LBJ caused hyperinflation thing out of. It was written by a neo-conservative author whom has some issues with his facts.

  • What Is The Federal Reserve's 'Rat' Trying To Tell You? [View article]
Given current trends wouldn't shorting gold make more sense. If things re going south I expect they will fail along the path of least resistance. Gold certainly looks like the most unstable asset class at the moment.

  • Rumored WSJ Piece 'Fed Maps Exit From Stimulus' No Joke After All [View article]
Well damn, I thought they'd slowly raise interest rates to give lenders greater returns, then cut the money that is paying for mortgage backed securities at rates so stupidly low nobody in their right mind would touch them.

  • Is The Tesla Model S Green? [View article]
Yeah, but the Tesla beats the hell out of the Honda Civic going 0 to 60. You are assuming CO2 emissions matter to people buying a luxury vehicle.

I don't think we can predict 2014 performance. The Scotland referendum is scheduled for the end of 2014. The amount of political risk involved makes economic forecasting somewhat difficult.
