Longevity Risk, Through The Eyes Of An Actuary [View article]
John I would like to suggest that there is nothing tragic about living beyond your life expectancy. "Approximately 50% will, tragically, live beyond their life expectancy and run out of money."
I do however agree that to run out of money would be tragic.

What If Apple Weren't A Tech Stock? [View article]
I have to admit that I don't understand the whole Apple status symbol and crazyness. I don't own Apple stock but I do own a iphone 4 and an ipad. I like them both an use them a lot but im not crazy about there limitations. On the topic of Asians buying them in Asia however I do have some insite since I am and have been living in Asia. Koreans stay loyal to Samsung. It's a nationalistic thing. Im not saying that they dont buy iphones. Im just saying the average person doesnt. Japan they have totally different phones but they do love iphones.
Taiwan (Chinese) are buying Iphones in droves. Getting rid ofthere HTC phones. It appears to be part status and part being able to crack the phones and get all the free apps they want from China based Hackers. They are watching movies and televison shows from around the world for free. Unlimited 3G Internet on your iphone is still very cheap here.
Hong Kong (Chinese) same. Thailand (Thai) same same.
I think I just about convinced myself to buy some apple stock.

I like your articles. I don't like the way you offered me your dividend report but didn't tell me I had to pay for membership to see it. That was deceptive and not appreciated. I expected better.

Sorry. It seems I am experiencing the same problem as the other posters. What I paste in my comment is not what shows up in the posted comment. pM me for the correct info.

I got it to work. This is what needs to be between the "http://bit.ly/MPA4lA?s=" in your formula. Now does anyone know how to exceed to limit of 50 "Importdata" functions?

BB If you would post your googlefinanceaddon to the Google Gallery I would be able to get that wonderful spreadsheet you have made available to calculate dividends. I love the spread sheet.
3 More Dividend ETFs Under The Microscope [View article]
Thanks Bob I've tried to look at HDIV on Morningstar and Google Finance but neither lists the dividend. In the fidelity Brokerage Link I can buy any fund or ETF just that my company modified it so i can not buy stock. I guess they don't trust me with my own money.
I also read and enjoyed your article. So like me you were mostly locked into your 401k mutual funds until you retired. I have found out that I can do an inservice withdrawal for the amount my company contributed ($70,000) to an IRA. It's difficult to put the power of compounding to work for me if I'm not allowed to allocate the full amount and get the DGI portfolio in place and working for me before retirement.

I've updated my profile. It's unique. I haven't seen anyone else's that is similar. I will now go and look at the suggestions. Thanks for the offers of help. It is greatly appreciated. I have sat down with "real professionals" previously but the closer I get to retirement the more the 4% strategy scares me. It think I will have to create a hybrid DG and ETF portfolio.

David I am happy to see you researching ETF's. I would truly love to put together a DGR portfolio unfortunately most of my money is stuck in a my 401k. I do have a new option to transfer money to Fidelity Brokerage Link but am restricted from buying stock in it. In the FBL I can buy any ETF or mutual fund. I do not believe I am the only person in this type of situation. Any advice?
Rising Dividends: My Dividend Growth Portfolio 2011-2012 Report [View article]
How does your dividend portfolio fit into the asset allocation that I am struggling to create? I am not a sophisticated investor. I am sure that Your dividend growth porfolio is not a large portion of your portfolio. I am 51 and would like to retire in 5 years. What percentage of my portfolio should be as you have described in a dividend portfolio. Thanks for the help Mike
