  • Apple Headed To $110 Or Higher, But Social Responsibility Still Needs Work [View article]
Look at the below two links and write your next article on who in the Fortune 100 is doing a better job or is more transparent than Apple. Also, just because they're not talking about it doesn't mean they're not doing it. People that fill in blanks about Apple with conjecture are almost always wrong.

  • Apple: Tim Cook's Brilliant Move [View article]
They should give more "color and depth to help investors"? Why, so they can be like every other company? So they can tip their hands to their competitors? So the talking heads take charge of Apple's message? How does that help them? It just sets more expectations that people can wildly over-speculate about and over-blow...

Ichan knows nothing and cares nothing about how Apple runs. He cares only about extracting as much money out of it as he can for his own gain. Years ago, he coined the phrase, "in business, if you want a friend, buy a dog." He is not the long investor's friend as he's making himself out to be. He's going to hit his targets and take his profits, to AAPL's and everyone else whole holds AAPL's detriment. Tim and AAPL aren't timid. They have chosen and made every move very carefully. Unlike everyone on this thread, they also have all the facts in front of them - the rest of us are just filling in very large gaps with speculation, most of it likely incorrect.

To write to the extreme about Apple or to make "they must" or "they don't know what they're doing" or other extreme statements just shows one's own ignorance.

  • The iPhone Will Be In Third Place In 2015 [View article]
    1) How much margin is in the low end?
    2) The assumption that Apple isn't interested in enterprise is uninformed. Do you have data to back this up or just anecdote?
    3) Rapid growth is easy when you're small and playing in a space few others are really interested in because of, well, my point #1 above.

  • Several Catalysts For Beleaguered Apple [View article]
The word "beleaguered" is the Brittney Spears of the english language. It's buzzy fancy filler for those with no imagination, voice or creativity. Please, folks... invest in a thesaurus and find a new word. It's so horribly overused to describe a company that's in any form of a down period that it's distracting and causes one to discount all else with which the author surrounds it.

  • Apple (AAPL) releases Tim Cook's official statement (.pdf) to the Senate ahead of his Tuesday appearance at a hearing on corporate tax payments. Among other things, Apple claims it paid ~$6B in federal taxes in FY12 and a 30.5% effective federal tax rate, and that its foreign units don't engage in the practices the hearing focuses on (the shifting of IP to offshore havens, revolving loans from subsidiaries, etc). The company proposes a tax system that's "revenue neutral, eliminates all tax expenditures, lowers tax rates and implements a reasonable tax on foreign earnings." (previous[View news story]
The beauty of Seeking Alpha is that the comments are usually well reasoned and educated responses. This is neither. Apple does obey the law and pays a ton of taxes on domestic earnings. "Loopholes" are nothing more than exceptions, exemptions or things the lawmakers decided wouldn't be taxed. There's nothing illegal about it. And the Chinese who are "enslaved" are people who had little to no better options than the factory work which is transformational for them. You can't apply western standards to understand their employment options. People too often judge based on opinion, prejudice and a general lack of fact. Please don't turn this site into Fox "News" or MSNBC. And "affect" should have been "effect".

  • Why Apple Is Becoming Irrelevant [View article]
Apple didn't have the first MP3 player. They ended up doing pretty well there. Apple didn't have the first smartphone and have done pretty well there. People have been hounding Apple for a TV for a decade. In 1998, Steve said "TV is where people go to turn their brain off" and poo-poohed the idea of Apple doing something there. Josh, look at the history of the company and you'd know that Apple not rushing to be first for something is no basis for counting it out of a market and certainly not an assumption support by historical fact that they've lost any potential to later dominate that market. iPad Mini is probably the latest example.

Nice article for the purpose of garnering discussion but not up to snuff of what I've come to expect on seeking alpha. This was a very thinly veiled op-ed piece with some very flawed and uninformed assumptions.

  • Apple (AAPL): FQ2 EPS of $10.09 beats by $0.02. Revenue of $43.6B (+11% Y/Y) beats by $1.1B. 37.4M iPhones, 19.5M iPads, just under 4M Macs. Expects FQ3 revenue of $33.5B-$35.5B, below $39.3B consensus. Buyback increased by $50B. Shares halted. CC at 5PM ET (webcast). (PR[View news story]
Ross, the buyback means AAPL is in the company's estimation the best investment on the planet and with every purchase increases the value for the stock for the rest of us. The increase of the dividend brings even further value to the investor. Not sure why you're so focused on book value...
