Hi Bret, just read about Bristol Squibb exit from Hep C. Any comments re: GILD prospects with 1 less competitor? Thanks!

  • Verizon: A Great Investment Opportunity In A High-Yielding Stock [View article]
"The annual rate of dividend growth over the past three years was high at 2.5%, over the past five years was at 3.1%, and over the past ten years was at 3.0%."

I'm not sure why you would consider 2.5 - 3.1% dividend growth is considered high. It might be better regarded as "stable".

  • KKR: Solid Value, Great Yield [View article]
Looked at S&P report. KKR describes itself to have "mezzanine strategies". Definitely a swing trading stock. I'll pass on this one. Thx anyway, Bret!

  • AT&T Or Kinder Morgan For Your Retirement Portfolio? [View article]
KMI and KMR are ok they pay investors after corporate taxes. KMP pays investors before corporate taxes so the tax burden falls on the investor in recapture taxes should the investor ever liquidate. Just be aware.

  • Gilead Beats Apple To $100. Who Will Win Race To $120? [View article]
GILD by a day over AAPL in the 100 race. I agree that GILD will get to 120 substantially faster than AAPL. Their potential markets open up countries at a time. AAPL iPhone 6 is a replacement product, and iTime will take a while to gain traction as a legitimate market.

    Hi Brett,

Thanks for keeping us clear. Any opinion on the JC Penny turnaround? Do you think they can overcome their mountain of debt even with advancing sales?

  • AT&T: Competitive Environment Doesn't Preclude A Good Investment Opportunity [View article]
Actually, T is the perfect stock for young investors to place some of their $ in with auto re-invest. The compounding effect is enormous over decades

  • Getting From BooHoo! Back To Yahoo Again May Not Be That Far Off [View article]
Marissa Mayer's performance so far is starting to remind me of Carly Fiorina at Hewlett-Packard. At that time she made some acquisitions that just didn't pan out (ex Compaq Computers)

  • AT&T: Compelling Even Without Growth [View article]
Compelling. The substantial lead that T (5.2%) has over a 3% yielding stock X makes it very difficult for X to overtake T in dividend yield in less than 10 years unless there is a real good capital appreciation story for X. Not so for KO or PG. Therefore, T is good for retiree portfolios.

  • J.C. Penney: Have The Bulls Won? [View article]
The next Q report is the important one. Clearance is done. The returning customer, not just the clearance customer, will tell the tale of re-establishing customer loyalty and brand name. If JCP can do it without pulling the debt trigger then we're good to go

  • J.C. Penney: All In Now? [View article]
No need to go all in just yet. Follow Bill O'Reilly's method. Look for a 3 month plateau (which jcp has), look for gapping up on good Q numbers now and for good future guidance before moving in.

  • Every Dividend Income Investor Should Own Apple Now [View article]
I'm of the same generation as you and have invested just as long. AAPL is a dividend gem in the making, a Dividend Aristocrat to be. Also, it's true that although institutional investors don't care about rounding lots, individual investors do. Now, if only those pesky shorters would go away.
