  • 17.8%-Yielding CEFL - Diversification On Top Of Diversification, Or Fees On Top Of Fees? [View article]
I own CEFL, but still like to learn more about it.

It is based on 2x YYY, from years 2003 to 2008, YYY dropped about 50%, so CEFL will drop to zero as it is 2x of YYY.

If this is the case CEFL should be timed carefully. Otherwise it is better to own YYY.

At this time, it is better to hold CEFL as it has a larger yield. No sign that YYY or CEFL is collapsing.

So, are you saying that you do not buy BDCL? I thought in earlier articles, you buy and sell BDCL. Just curious.

  • UBS's New Funds Targeting Higher Returns Up To 19% [View article]
Other than ETN and UBS risks, what are the risks for CEFL and other ETNs offered here?

Some criticized high expense ratio, but with double the income, the expenses is small compare to the yield.

  • The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly [View article]
The article mainly focused on expense ratio, not much else. Looking at just one aspect only may not be the best evaluation.

I look forward to your analysis on DVHL.

  • Equity CEFs: Sell This, Buy That From These Fund Families [View article]
That article looks unsophisticated as it looks at one dimension only, expense ratio. Furthermore, it says it the fund holds highly risky assets, assuming that they are saying those CEF with huge discount. So holding discounted CEF is risky, and buying an ETF with 0.5% is ugly.

So, holding CEF with premium is less risky (than those with discount), and buying an ETF with low expense ratio is smart.

Currently CEFL is making 16% payout and holding CEF with huge discount with lots of holding from EV funds that people highly touted at SA. I need better arguments from Morningstar to believe it.

  • Equity CEFs: Sell This, Buy That From These Fund Families [View article]
    Great. You have a point.

UBS rating is from high medium to great (according to three credit rating agencies), and things like the failure of Lehman Brothers can still happen to UBS, but most likely will not happen soon or in the near future.

In the meantime, they picked highly discounted CEFs (risk reduced) and double the yield of those discounted CEF. I looked at MORL and similar ETN, their performance is simply double of the underlying CEF.

Talking about discount and yield, I could not find better discount and yield than CEFL, as it leverage the yield by holding discounted CEF. Yet, few people commented about CEFL. It is not a CEF, but ETN, but it holds a collection of CEF.

  • It's Not Too Late To Capitalize On The Real Estate Recovery [View article]
Right now, BPY is a more of a holding company of real estate as majority of assets are in public REIT stocks, rather than a REIT company.

Over time, they will sell these public shares to buy real properties via their network. So, this is more like buying the management that they will spend money wisely in the future.

From the history of BIP, the same management made money for BIP shareholders. Thus, BPY will be the same if we project BPY forward. Not a bad wait for about 2 to 3 fold in stock price plus 5% dividend and growing dividend. Better than S&P index.
