Problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other people's money. Anyone that loans money to that country at this point deserves to not get it back.

  • A Few Thoughts About The Intel Earnings Report [View article]
    Using Full year projections...
    In millions
    Revenue: $55,965 (53.3 Billion * 1.05)
    Gross Margine: 63%
    MG&A and R&D: 19,300
    Operating income: 57600*.66-19200=15,957
    Taxes: 15,957 * 0.28 = 4,468
    Net Income = 11,489
EPS = 2.44 (accounting for 5% decrease in outstanding shares)
@ a PE of 15, target price would be $36.64/share.

This is using a GM of 63%. Q3 is projected to have a GM of 66. Using the above formula with Q3 margin, we get a stock price of $40.50.

I wonder which one of these lines of yours I should believe more.

At this point its easier for me to just say I have 13 years experience in semi-conductor manufacturing and I am a process engineer. If you don't want to listen to me, well thats your loss.

Defects come from the manufacturing process, not the product being built. Since a SOC would have all the items you listed on one chip, they would count as one product. Bad die are typically related to where they are on the wafer and for reasons that are hard to explain.

Yields don't compound like that. If you combine 3 processes with 90% yield you will end up with a yield of 90%.

Placing RAM onto the CPU is possible, but unlikely. The 14nm chips are expected to be about 90mm^2. Have you ever looked at a RAM chip? A single RAM chip is about the size of a 14nm die and an average computer with 4gigs of RAM will have about 4 chips per memory module. To be able to shrink the CPU small enough to put 4 gigs of memory Intel would need to be down around 3-4nm node. This also adds to the problem of heat dissipation and increases manufacturing complexity.

  • Intel: Basic Reasons For Increasing Earnings [View article]
If you take the revised numbers for Q2 and for 2014, you get a range of $29.5 to $32.72 when you account for a P/E of 15. If Intel had a P/E of 25, the stock would be at ~$54.54. I'm not going to hold my breath for that but I firmly believe that $34 should be possible if good news comes out July 15th.
