Is Pfizer's Viagra Suffering with the Economy?
John65 is correct about seasonanality. It is not due to increases or descreases in prescribing, but it is due to seasonality of purchasing patterns by wholesalers--typically... purchasing more in the 1st quarter than the 2nd. A better indicator would be TRx and NRx. I'm sure Mr. Huckman could place a call to IMS, but this might destroy his hypothesis.

Pfizer: Four Lessons From the Exubera Failure
I'd add a 5 learning. Just because a product becomes the adopted baby of members of senior management doesn't mean its going to be a success. The previous regime (McKinnell/Katen et al) loved Exubera despite internal recommendations 5 years ago that the product would never have a positive ROI. Former employees suggest that many a recommendation to cease development went to sr management and the product continued to get their support. If true, this explains the current state of the company.
