I read this same stuff everyday while the dotcom bubble burst. Lesson learned: do not go long without a major catalyst and evidence that the economy is strengthening. Otherwise, you are simply gambling.

We had 4 years of strong buying, so a couple weeks of strong selling is not the panic discussed in history books. Blood is when you can buy the blue chips for pennies on their future dollars of cash flow. We are not even close ...]]>

Great points. However, my guest said credit cards were next, and they were. I don't understand the whole first part of your comment given that this was discussed.
Second, we did consider exploring CMBS, but the problems there are very small at the moment, and I was looking to give people a view at what is happening NOW in the pits, not create a comprehensive list of all the possible things that could go wrong (and Portfolio already had a CMBS article the same week).

I am sorry you already knew everything in the interview. We happened to receive a large amount of emails thanking us for the insights because most people are not as educated as you.

We can't please everyone, and we are not an academic site. But we will keep your criticism in mind for our upcoming interviews.]]>

If my thesis is as obvious as you say, why is Barnes & Nobles filled with 2008 predictions, and why do the masses keep falling for this garbage?

You may be insightful, but the history of Wall Street and investing evidence that you are indeed rare.]]>

Incoming information suggests that the outlook for economic activity for this year has worsened and that the "downside risks to growth have become more pronounced," Bernanke warned.

A housing slump, weaker home values, harder-to-get credit and high energy prices all "seem likely to weigh on consumer spending as we move into 2008," Bernanke said.]]>

Ready for U.S. Banks To Be Nationalized? http://seekingalpha.com/article/59713-ready-for-u-s-banks-to-be-nationalized?source=feed#comment-109422 109422
Smart people know that money works on the same blind faith as religion. But, hey, religion has had some firm staying power -- so why not the market for exchanging goods and services for IOU's? Most people aren't interested in losing their jobs and learning how to farm in order to re-instate the gold standard. Frankly, people love credit because they would have MUCH LESS without the borrowed dollars. Even the poor in the US have cable TV, cell phones, and are over weight. Who is going to start a revolution and jeopardize that?

You are a wonderful person for exposing the issues with our system, but the extreme talk keeps the mainstream from paying attention to the important things you have to say ...]]>

With all do respect, you are merely encouraging those with no real time information to bottom fish. Once again, you can find thousands of articles like this from 2000-2001 ...

What is the catalyst for the turnaround? Housing is still in free fall, retail numbers were horrific, casual dining is slowing fast, credit card defaults are on the rise, and employment is softening.

Like you, I would love to be a bull, but there is no evidence to support going long yet ...]]>

I think it's cool of you to go out on a limb and write the article, but I think you need to be clearer that this is Vegas-style investing. This company has horrible management, the commission style employee pay doesn't work, BBY is CRUSHING this company, we are entering the worst time of year for retailers (no matter the strength of an economy), and the credit markets are horrible for a buyout.

The title of this article should be: Taking a Complete Gamble and Praying for a Buyout.

I only mention this for those who may be less aware how speculative this is ...]]>
