In August, 2006, I established a Registered Investment Advisor in Clearwater, Florida: Intrinsic Value Asset Management, LLC, serving high-net worth clients. The firm provides financial planning advice and equity portfolio management. In addition, the firm provides valuation consulting to institutional equity portfolio managers.
From 2001 through July, 2006, I was Executive Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager, as well as a member of the portfolio management team for Great Companies, LLC, a firm that sub-advised mutual funds and variable annuities for Transamerica IDEX, and managed high-net-worth and institutional accounts. I joined the firm full-time in 2001 after establishing the research, portfolio management and operations infrastructure as a consulting task from the time of the firm’s startup in May 2000.
As Senior Portfolio Manager, I trained and monitored portfolio management team members in the techniques of equity valuation that I had employed in Intrinsic Value Associates. In addition, I worked closely with the Chief Investment Officer and the Director of Trading to design and implement portfolio monitoring, risk control, trading efficiency and investment procedures.
Within the portfolio management team, members were responsible for generating moneymaking ideas and supporting these with valuation and strategy assessments in written form. I have been able to generate profitable ideas consistently over time.
Prior to my role as Senior Portfolio Manager, I established and managed Intrinsic Value Associates LLC, an independent equity research firm that provided custom equity valuations to buy-side portfolio managers. The firm published an email newsletter, Intrinsic Value Weekly, which highlighted moneymaking ideas and provided sector valuations and commentary. Consulting also included advising senior corporate managements on value-building strategies.
Before Intrinsic Value Associates, LLC, I managed the Equity Group of Continental Asset Management in New York, where I was successful in developing valuation techniques, training and managing analysts and managing corporate, defined benefit and defined contribution funds totaling more than $1 billion. I was responsible for the corporate equity portfolio, the equity portion of the employees’ pension fund and the equity portion of the 401k savings plan. In addition, I managed more than $100 million in venture capital partnerships and $200 million in alternative investment strategies.
I received a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Oregon, majoring in Finance and Investment. I also completed the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School.
