U.S. taxpayers are
footing the bill
for overseas lobbying that promotes controversial biotech crops developed by Monsanto (
), according to a report issued by Food & Water Watch. A review of hundreds of diplomatic cables to and from the State Department and embassies in more than 100 countries found officials actively promoting the commercialization of specific biotech seeds.

Geneticly altered seeds offer higher yields. This should aid countries which are having difficulty feeding their population and/or aid their farmers.
The controvery is mostly generated by people who are not aware of the benefits. To feed the rapidly expanding population we will need ways to expand our means of crop production.
