As a individual investor without unlimited funds and looking for income, I will be buying HDV. I came to the same conclusions as Mr. Roland. Essentially it is a matter of simplicity. And since I also own shares of BLK, any of my concern about the 40 bps in fees is lessened somewhat, as a bit of it will come back to my own bottom line through a part of the dividend that BLK pays. While HDV is not (yet) sold as an active ETF, I am sure that both iShares and BlackRock will be keeping a pretty close look.

Enjoyed your column of February 21, 2011. Trading costs for small investors are indeed an issue. And Schwab and the others seem to be addressing it as a survival move in their grab for assets. That is good for investors.

Look forward to your response to David. Just a note...Your listing of choices shows SCHB as the symbol for the Schwab US Small Cap ETF. Typo?... Believe it be SCHA?

Can you point us to where we can find a comparison table of return performance, yield, fees and tracking indexes (etc.) between the Schwab funds and other like funds with iShares, Ameritrade and Vanguard. I could do this myself, but surely someone with more resources and time has already done it? Thank you.
