  • Who Will Come Out Ahead from e-Book Success in College Classrooms?  [View article]
Apple is going to be the clear winner in this market. Their tablet is going to blow open a whole new category just like the iPhone did in the cellular market, and no one will be able to effectively compete against their platform consisting of a brilliant, stable and easy to use OS, iTunes, laptops, large screen desktops, iPhones, iPods and iTablet. Graphics, imbedded video, interactive capabilities, superior operating environment. Apple is the winner. Period.

  • Why Android Is Gaining Ground on Apple [View article]
What a crock, and also a worthless "article". Only a fool would claim that Apple is being anti-competitive by tying iTunes to its own products. First, other devices CAN access iTunes data as has been repeated over and over again, just not as seamlessly as you can with Apple's own products. Further, why in the world would Apple have to / need to / or be required to share their intellectual property beyond their own products! Its a platform and ecosystem they invented, developed and marketed to the tune of MILLIONS and MILLIONS of dollars. What total nonsense that they should then make it easy for competitors to "borrow or steal" it! Others keep trying to "steal" Apples functionality / access instead of creating their own products and services from scratch, and then they whine about it just like you're doing when they can't. Let these other companies invest their own millions in developing competing products.

And your point is what? No one gives turn by turn away for free. Most current users of the service in fact buy a separate device to plug into their car, and no matter the device, you need to buy ongoing updates as guess what, roads change as communities change. You need to pay for these services - they are not free no matter what device you have or how you get your service!

That may be but its a Nokia N97 which is clunky and has a horrible OS so that still makes it a bad choice.

  • iPhone 3GS Owners Are Happy, Good for Apple [View article]
How absurd your comments are. Overpriced? Based on what? Its the most sophisticated handheld computer on the market, and is being significantly subsidized by the carrier. You are obviously a shill for someone. Your claims on the battery are also nonsense - the battery life for 3G voice and internet access is exactly the same as the previous 3G iphone.

And AT&T service useless? I guess that means that MILLIONS of cellphone owners are not using their cellphones even though they pay AT&T every month. Yes they have some network deficiencies in some markets, but they have been rapidly improving them so this is very old news. Further, I switched to AT&T before the iPhone came out here in Denver because the Verizon network had a huge dead zone in my neighborhood right in DOWNTOWN Denver and they said it would take at least 2 years to fix it, so EVERY carrier has their stories.

@yogottabe - with all due respect you are obviously not a research expert. A survey with a sample of 200 respondents is a significant survey and statistically valid.

Good come back Bastion. And as for Palm. You left out one key point against her HTC post - its windows and its MS.

And as for Palm, you should read this link on the continued disaster at Palm.... shows that the hype coming out of CES regarding the Pre is nonsense once you really dig into the facts...

  • Buy, Sell or Hold: Apple's Cohesive Strategy to Survive and Thrive [View article]
This article has a key flaw when it comes to the enterprise market - which it got TOTALLY wrong as stated here:

"Again, the enterprise-market segment, which she knows intimately, has two main concerns:

    * Total cost of ownership, which includes the initial price for the phone, as well as the service and, very importantly, the maintenance.

    * Data security."

"The latter one is a killer for the iPhone in the enterprise market, since corporate IT departments cannot remotely shut down iPhones that are lost or are stolen as they are able to do with Research-in-Motion-mad... Blackberries. In addition, the locked nature of the iPhone makes it very difficult for IT departments to customize solutions for company use."

First, with the new OS update, you can set the phone to erase all data if someone enters the wrong passcode 5 times in a row. Further, if using MS Exchange (which is in most enterprise installations) the Exchange ActiveSync Mobile Administration Web Tool can be used to initiate a remote wipe of a lost or stolen device and view the status of a remote wipe request.

Secondly, as to customizing the phone for corporate use, the SDK receives rave reviews for its ease of developing custom apps - This is not a "closed system" as stated in the article, but a superior solution compared to other offerings.

Lastly, when calculating total cost of ownership, this article fails to realize the dramatic increases in productivity that can be achieved by the iPhone.

  • Apple's $199 iPhone Is a Game-Changer [View article]
Discounting the iPhone is a terrible idea. It really isn't a phone but a full on computer that also has phone capabilities, and its a device that is easily integrated through great software to your computer, itunes, ipod. And it's far far far easier to use than any other device out there, and oh by the way, there ARE more expensive phones out there, but guess what, the carriers heavily subsidize them so you have no idea what their true worth/value is other than you signed a 2 year contract to get one for free or for say $99 - why not pay for a device what it is actually worth, and let the carriers discount THEIR services when you buy one. After all, they are the commodity, not the iPhone. The carriers in the US have totally screwed consumers by subsidizing phones and then dictating to the manufacturers what features and functions the phone can have thus suppressing innovation in this country. Apple builds great products that people want, by the 10's of millions - I'm long on apple and am perfectly happy with their current growth rates - selling the phone at a cheaper price cheapens the brand and the perceived value of the iPhone and will hurt apple in the long run. Quit being short term thinkers! There is plenty of pent up demand at current prices - 10's of millions around the world are on the fence waiting for the 3G iPhone.
