My Take on Fortune's Best Stocks for 2008
A reference date of 12/14 (when these companies were originally recommended) vs. 1/4 (when I looked to see if they were still attractively priced) makes a big difference.

Exiting My King Pharma Position with a Nice Gain
I agree with you 100%. KG has great potential for appreciation and under good market conditions could be a $18/share stock, while AZN is not a bargain basement pick. However, health care companies are a traditional recession play and too many people have been shifting too much money into them, recently. Whenever this happens, the group becomes overbought and experiences a correction. In addition, market players are very jittery these days and are eager to take money off the table whenever there is a gain. For these reasons it was prudent to sell KG quickly and this is also why it was trading for under $10 again today.

My Take on Fortune's Best Stocks for 2008
There has not been a succession plan announced for Berkshire Hathaway as of the date that I did research on the company is the longer and more accurate statement.

I have no list for 2008, I simply look for opportunities to buy stocks in the companies that go "on sale" and than sell them, once they are trading at a fair price. You can easily see what my current favorites are simply by watching what I have bought and have not yet sold. As of this writing my personal portfolio consists of the following: BRC, CHN, CI, DD, ECA, EWJ, GCH, GLD, HELE, HW, JNJ, KCP, LUV, LVWD, NOVN, PDS, PNR, TRID, VLO, VVUS, WMT, BRKB, MOGA.

I would take exception to the comment that I do not do my homework and as proof to the contrary point out that while the performance of my portfolio significantly exceeded S&P500 last year, it has also held up exceptionally well as the market descended from it's October peak. If anyone is curious about the specifics, I'll be glad to email them.

      Two Great American Companies
I wrote about BRC less than a year ago and the story is pretty much the same now. Also, plenty of data on BRC is available from a wide variety of sources. My goal with this note was to bring attention to a good deal temporarily available on the market so that other deal seekers may have the opportunity to explore this opportunity through their own research. (Resources like yahoo finance are free, easily accessible and are a good place to start.) I do not have a goal or desire to tout, scalp or pump and dump stocks - if this is what you are looking for, you should be reading different blogs...

Cirrus Logic: Long Road to Recovery
As I have mentioned in the original post, I made the mistake of not disposing of this stock when I saw its business dynamics changing and than ignoring it for years. When I was doing the year end review of my positions, I finally decided it was time for CRUS to go.

Yes, you are right, I should have dumped it much earlier!

Regarding audio being a dying industry, what I meant is that the business of making audio chips is a declining business. This is absolutely the case, because there is a constant push for more integration all the time. Just as read channel designs in disc drives (a business that CRUS exited) transitioned through higher integration to single chip disc drive designs used in high volume, the same way audio components are getting integrated to make combo chips for the mass market. Yes, there are (and perhaps there will always be) some high end systems that will need better quality sound chips and perhaps CRUS could fill that niche and be very profitable in doing so, the same as the last manufacturer of vacuum tubes, but I am not going to count on that happening!

TRID is better positions than CRUS in that their product is much further away from getting integrated away and I do like TRID at $6 even better than at $7. TRID is also much more profitable, so it is a much, much better value today.
