A dumb blonde was really tired of being made fun of, so she decided to have her hair she would look like a brunette.

When she had brown hair, she decided to take a drive in the country.

After she had been driving for a while, she saw a farmer and a flock of sheep and thought,
"Oh! Those sheep are so adorable!"
She got out and walked over to the farmer and said,
"If I can guess how many sheep you have, can I take one home?"
The farmer, being a bit of a gambler himself, said she could have a try.
The blonde looked at the flock and guessed, "157."
The farmer was amazed - she was right! So the girl picked one out the cutest and most playful of the sheep and got back into her car.
Before she left, farmer walked up to her and said.

"If I can guess the real color of your hair, can I have my dog back?"

As a PhD scientist I can state from experience and with complete authority that the vast majority of scientists believe that scientific conclusions should be derived from interpretation of observations, not by consensus polling or computational modeling.

I hope that ends this argument.

More Argument from Authority, hopefully an agonal gasp.

I predict that within two years the catastrophic AGW crowd will fid some way to assert that initially higher CO2 levels actually cause the temperature to drop or "thank God for another solar minimum" because now they have a few decades to create their solar/windmill-filled, nuclear-free world.

A more likely outcome is that oil prices will remain relatively steady and the automakers that invested the most in EcoBling will suffer the disproportionately and be least able to offer next generation vehicles in 10 years like the Toyota Nirvana with its aluminum-air battery and 500 mile range.

Great compendium, John. My unsolicited two cents:

EVangelists predictions for the market for EV's only hold true for that very small minority for whom an EV is a "spare" car--a vehicle they can use to see and be seen when there is absolutely, positively no chance of running out of electrons.

A primary (commuter) or secondary (spouse and children) vehicle is only as valuable as the last mile it can drive, just like oil is only as cheep as the last barrel pumped. No sane head of household is going to buy a vehicle whose range depends so drastically on load, temperature and road conditions.

A single person with a short commute might consider an EV, but is likely to discard the idea when he realizes its resale value is likely to be awful. (Who wants a $10,000 used, old technology battery?)

Personally, I'm waiting for the 2030 Toyota Nirvana with a 500 mile aluminum-air battery that can be changed at the corner station in under 5 minutes.

Tripleblack, have you been on HotCopper (http://hotcopper.com.au)? There's a lot of discussion there about Lynas, their travails in Malaysia and Malay politics.

John, can you define "pornographically expensive" or do you just know it when you see it? :)

Did he say something about them not being cost-competetive outside of a small niche market just like Teslas?

I've never been called an "ilk" before. It feels alright.

I bought some Jan13 $12.50 puts on TSLA a few months ago. Right now I am feeling only compassion for Teslans who have mocked AXPW, and not even a touch of Schadenfreude...I swear.

John's about to hit 12345 comments. I expect by the time the comment odometer hits 123456, AXPW will have made us able to afford spare batteries for our Teslas.
