    >Ranma ... "don't even know about PbC". Sad, but true. A123 has an advantage because Li-on has been tested for years now, in one chemistry or another (most people don't discern between). Axion needs a little testing time to get utility attention beyond demonstration projects. I'm hoping the Li-on testing shows batteries to be a solution and the economics of PbC to be irresistible.

    >H.T.Love ... Outside of our little universe the PbC doesn't exist. JP points out quite often that 90% of the market has never heard of Axion or the PbC. Remember that most of the world is only interested in "best available" technology.

    >H.T. Love ... To date in this current economic crisis, I've seen virtually no Keynesian solutions applied.

    >LabTech ... Toward this end ... The total destruction of LAB technology ... I got the following announcement in my DOE News feed today. Battery Research consortium

    http://bit.ly/xm2CPk

This is the kind of government funded industry research support I'm in favor of seeing more of. Part of their "Hubs" program ( http://energy.gov/hubs ). [snark] This is a link to explain the goals of this conspiracy to subsidize Chinese manufacturing with your tax dollars.

    >Mayascribe ... I waited too long to add to previous. I wonder how much of the Federally funded portions (possibly Brookville, Penn State & Axion) could get up and walk on over to another rail company if such a thing came into being.

    >Mayascribe ... No one has bothered to design racks yet? That is either such a small "no-brainer" project that no one cares or corporate attention is not focused on fielding this project for whatever the reason may be. I'm not sure it can be traced to the BMS because IIRC TG stated that it was fully functional. NS stated the problem was input current "balance" (?) which would be the system upstream of the BMS subsystem. None of which we know much about.

On the bureaucratic front, it could be EPA but it is just as likely a corporate bias toward diesel solutions with electric & hybrid solutions just not being viewed as desirable or workable. They did buy several "Green Goats" that didn't work out. Looking at the built, in-process & budgeted gensets, there will be 300+ new & deployed before the NS999 gets its report card and work on the OTR hybrid isn't even stripped down chassis. I'm bummed and it's no wonder TG is talking to other rails ... I hope. I still think this is the battery they've been waiting for.

    >482086 ... With all the deliberate speed NS is is displaying, I would say, with some possibility of 4Q12, you're correct.

    >jpau ... Best I can figure is that the project has not progressed beyond the talking stage. A lot about the OTR hybrid seems to be dependent on the NS999 project.

    >JP ... That info almost makes it read like NS999 progress is dependent of how fast taxpayer money flows toward it & not any interest NS might have in it.

    >D-inv ... I like your timeline better but that is very quick. I just don't get the "feeling" that NS999 is viewed as an "urgent need" solution. I don't pretend to know if there are problems, a bias toward diesel or whatever but, 20 months on, the NS999 project decision moves toward the real working world very slowly. I'm 5 years on with my Axion/trains idea, I look at NS numbers of locos & money budgeted to diesel gensets & wonder.

    >MAP ... I wouldn't read too much into the FaceBook comment of "later". Beyond the work order in hand, I doubt the Altoona Shops know anything else.

It does seem that 2012 is shaping up to be a year of "Hurry-up & Wait". Meh, what's another year among friends?

    >SHB ... EMI has developed a pretty cool material there. Spiral wound Lead-Carbon battery/capacitor. Wonder if that is covered by Axion's patent fence?
