  • BlackBerry Poised To Take Third Place In Smartphone World

BlackBerry (formerly known as Research in Motion) is surprising everyone with its next generation BlackBerry 10 OS potential. BlackBerry started the smartphone revolution but somehow didn't capitalize the massive opportunity of growth and has lost market share since the arrival of Apple's iPhone and Google's Android platform. The Canadian company put all its efforts in latest BlackBerry 10 OS since it acquired QNX technology back in 2010. After nearly two and a half year BlackBerry officially launched its next generation mobile computing platform, BlackBerry 10 on Jan 30th 2013. BlackBerry Z10 and Q10 were the first BlackBerry smartphones that BlackBerry announced at launch party. After the launch BlackBerry went on a marketing blitz with its Super Bowl XLVII ad and then partnership with Mercedes Formula 1 team. The initial Z10 launch exceeded expectations with retailers sold out within first weekend. BlackBerry Z10 launch day sales breaks record and is claimed to be the best selling smartphone in BlackBerry's history. BlackBerry then rewarded its developers with limited edition handset for their hard work and support. This approach is seriously boosting BlackBerry image in developers community. Any Smartphone OS is as good as its app ecosystem. BlackBerry has learned this fact the hard way. BlackBerry World was launched with over 70000 BlackBerry 10 apps and now the count stands at well over 100000. The addition of WhatsApp, Amazon Kindle, Skype, Instagram (only via sideloading) and BlackBerry Travel bring BlackBerry 10 to competing levels. BlackBerry was awarded for its marketing effort and hard work when a single company ordered 1 million BlackBerry Z10 units (Rumored to be Brightstar). BlackBerry then beat Wall street expectations for FYQ4 2013 by posting profit of $98 million (Sold 1 million BlackBerry Z10 units). The interesting fact in FYQ4 result was that nearly 55% of new BlackBerry Z10 buyers were from platforms other than BlackBerry. The canadian company is on course to become the comeback company of technology sector. The BlackBerry Q10 is now available in UK & Canada and BlackBerry CEO is expecting several tens of millions of sales of its latest flagship smartphone. BlackBerry is poised to overtake Microsoft and take third place in smartphone OS market by the end of this quarter. If latest rumors are true than BlackBerry will also beat Apple to its first phablet (harryminhas.wordpress.com/2013/03/31/blackberry-u10/). BlackBerry R10 is rumored to be the first budget friendly BlackBerry 10 smartphone. It is expected to launch sometime during second half of 2013. There is no doubt that the Canadian company has potential and can seriously compete in high end market against other flagship smartphones from Apple and Samsung. Overall, BlackBerry 10 is worth the wait and can compete against other smartphone platforms.

Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks mentioned, and no plans to initiate any positions within the next 72 hours.
