But Congress is not smart. So even if they did call in the Fed people to ask "Why?", they wouldn't know what to do with the answer.It's better it's practically given away at a fire sale then allowed to fail, which seems would be it's fate.

This article mentions the rogue trader Kerviel as working at Credit Suisse, vice UBS, both Swiss banks. Kerviel was, in fact, an employee of Societe Generale, a French Bank. Swiss bankers are not that out of sorts now, are they? Mon Dieu! Mar 05 04:27 PM
