Interesting approach Zena. I wonder when the brokers will stop allowing that.

NetSuite: Short-Term Short Idea, Long-Term Long
ikonoklastik, I covered NetSuite's business and competitors in great detail in my previous blog entry "NetSuite: Another Hot Tech IPO?" and have included the link to it below.

      www.sinletter.com/blog...

As I mentioned in the article, NetSuite the software is powerful and well integrated but the support leaves a lot to be desired. Moreover from a valuation basis, paying almost 13 times sales for an unprofitable company that is going to experience a slowdown in its growth rate in 2008 seems very rich to me.

Global P/E Ratios: How the U.S. Stacks Up
Using the following Business Standard article that was written when the BSE Sensex was around 14,800 on March 18th and applying the current 15,343 level to the P/E mentioned in the article, I came up with an approximate trailing P/E of 19.89.

      www.business-standard....

Assuming earnings growth in 2008 comes in at the low end of the 15 to 20% range expected, the forward P/E is approximately 17.30.

      Following Big Money Pays Off
Infogrames already owns a majority stake in Atari and uses the Atari brand for its games. Hence the 2 cent premium offered to buy out the rest of Atari. I still remember the day Infogrames bought the Atari name and the stock doubled from $3 to $6 overnight. Lackluster sales of the Matrix games and loss of the Unreal Tournament franchise has left this stock in the dumps despite a raging gaming market.

I agree with Serge that you may be too late to the party or in the case of Atari, its obituary.

ETFs and Mutual Funds: A Reality Check
I believe the file Reinko is talking about can be found here,

      www.federalreserve.gov...

The total figure as of Q3 2007 is 30 trillion and not 50 trillion. Out of this 30 trillion "only" 7.217 trillion is state and federal government debt and the rest is household, foreign and business debt.

While my outlook is slightly bearish, I cannot see how painting a doomsday scenario is going to help.

      India: Emerging Market Opportunity
@silvia77: According to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) website as of October 2007, the P/E of the BSE Sensex was 24.86. I am expecting a correction of 15% from these levels but have been proved wrong in the past.

@RG: I agree that such rate increases are not warranted but these the price increases were mentioned in The Economic Times and the link to the article is given below.

@Harmony: I noticed the discount for IFN and my first option would have been to short INP but that is no longer available. Discount to NAV of IIF is less than 5% as you can see below.

Holding Off on Canon, Despite Strong Fundamentals
I agree with you that digital camera sales are likely to stay strong well into 2008. My old Fujifilm digital camera is probably worth next to nothing and even my camcorder takes better pictures. I like CAJ a lot but am glad I waited as the stock has dropped a lot in recent days because of the yen appreciating against the dollar and the euro.

      Five Sectors To Consider Shorting
If you did not research by past trades, take a look at my current model portfolio or even the portfolio from November 2006 when I initiated four naked put options to hedge the long portion (not specific long stocks) of the portfolio. Two of those four puts (a trucking company YRC Worldwide and a homebuilder St Joe) are still in the portfolio wth gains of 111.43% and 161.54%.

      www.sinletter.com/port...

      www.sinletter.com/arch...

As for the "tech-stock" portfolio, I would hardly call a portfolio that contains an Israeli generic drug manufacturer (TEVA), a travel company (EPAX), an oil drilling company (DO), an entertainment company (BBI), an Indian auto company (TTM) and consumer non-discrenary companies (PG and UL) a "tech-stock" portfolio.

If using multiple naked put options, using selective short positions and diversifying long positions across asset classes and countries is not called hedging your risks, I have no idea what is.

      Five Sectors To Consider Shorting
Since you seem to have done the research on my past trades, I would love for you to show me when and where I was "naked long the stock again in my model portfolio". As most of my subscribers know I have been nothing but bearish on Countrywide since 2006. When those options expired I suggested that my timing was a little unfortunate ( I *only* made a 66.67% gain in 6 months as a "couple of points" on a $2.46 put option works out to a tidy gain) and it may be a good idea to roll them into new put options. While all my current positions are listed in the model portfolio, every single trade done in the past is listed in the Historical Trades section of SINLetter.com

It looks like QID achieves its leveraged shorting of the Qs through swaps and options as you can see from its daily holdings here

You can find additional information from their prospectus here

The inverse correlation between QID and QQQQ is quite apparent when you look at the following one year chart comparing the two
