      Apple Stores Outshine Retailers
      Stephen,

You've written about Apple's iPhone deferred revenue accounting. There are reports today that Apple will move to a new distribution model featuring open sales of 'unlocked' iPhones/iPod touches with no exclusive telecom tiein in most countries (starting w/ Italy and Australia).

I think Apple wants to accelerate the coming dominance of the iApps Store connection as the iTunes/iPod model has inspired: The iApps store system will provide security, a large app mkt place, easy update and backup, and a whole new customer experience of ease, delight and reliability. I believe the succesful roll out of this system will lead to Apple trading above $600 by 2011.

      What do you say?

      Apple’s Dramatic Risks and Ambitions
      Great column, Sramana,

I'd love for you to comment (or devote a report) on the impact of the iPhone SDK, the iApps store, and aapl's slice of 30% of all iApp sales at the store.

My thinking is that this seems to be setting up as iPod/iTunes, the Sequel. I'm expecting Apple to move from it's exclusive telecom deals to open, unlimited sales to anyone. Apple will be making a play for dominance in Smartphones and pocket PCs (and a yet-to-be-shipped MID device).

If Apple succeeds in dominating these new markets, Apple's Mkt Cap should exceed $500B by 2011.

      What say you?

Apple's Branding Strategy Delivers Superior Results
      Rick,

You make some nice points about the branding strategy, but your dismissive attitude to Apple's widely acknowledged technical and design brilliance is surprising.

Perhaps you ought to read a little more widely and gain an appreciation for Apple's magic sauce.

Wanted, Dead or Alive: The iPhone Killer
Apple calls it the iPhone, but it could more accurately be called the iPC (i Pocket Computer). It's the world's one and only iPC.

How long do you think it'll take for someone else's iPC to make it into your pocket? My guess: msft will screw up their 1st release in 2010, followed by something that works a year later. By then, it'll be too late and the iPhone will dominate its mkt, just like the iPod does today.

Oh, and as an added benefit, msft transitions into a Mac OS X application services company benefiting humanity by removing all of it's crap OSes from the mkt!

      Why Bush Doesn't Like Cap-and-Trade

Here's a problem: What if we follow your leadership and find out the eggheads were right after all? Will it be too late? Do you want your grandchildren to live in a world with no ice caps, coastal cities underwater, and weather disasters being 1000 times more destructive?

I can't choose for you, but I don't want to risk our planet's future on your certainty that you're right about this. (Ever been wrong on something?)

Back to 1998: Lessons from the G7 Then and Now
Greenspan's reputation is getting unraveled very quickly and it is not looking good for his leadership.

Question: Will the media reform and begin to truthfully investigate and question what is going on?

We have a leadership group which will live in history as having harmed our country (in so many ways) more than any external foe ever:

      Bush, Cheney, Greenspan.

Apple, Microsoft Run for the Clouds in the New Client Software War
Seems to me, most of what you say about the cloud having primacy is very much accurate.

I quibble w/ your comments burying Apple's substantial ability to create the future of physical devices. I believe Apple's market cap will be boosted significantly because they do creatIvely LEAD the future of fashion in technology and this is no small feat. They also will continue to LEAD in creating trustworthy security on desktops and in pockets. Again, not a small feat.

Since they are not asleep to the opportunity of the cloud: The explosive introduction of the iPhone along w/ accelerating strong growth of the Mac mkt and the importance of the iPhone SDK /w iTunes leads me to believe that Apple will be trading between $400 and $800 by Jan 2010.

Microsoft Adopts Adobe Flash; Scores Touchdown Against Apple
      Ashkan,

I'm not sure this is a TD for MSFT. It might be one for AAPL. I think Jobs is signaling Adobe he wants a major FL upgrade - higher quality, faster, more reliable.

Apple would be very happy to have an excellent FL running on its phone and Jobs is angling for that.

Can Apple's Resistance to Flash Content Last?
      Dana,

You're missing the point. Apple is very committed to EXCELLENT stds based solutions. It has standardized to H.264. H.264 is light, performant, capable, elegant and a std. Flash Lite is propietary, non-performant, klugey.

Apple will do everything it can to avoid supporting FL. However, they're a business, and if MS and Adobe make FL a defacto (although suboptimal) std Apple will support it.

Note, however, Apple is leaving it to MS and Adobe to 'make the sale'. Who knows? Maybe Adobe ships a major, great upgrade to FL and then everyone will be happy.

Jim Cramer on Bear Stearns Since Last Summer
Michael, Get Real, This is bullshit...

"3/11/2008 Before Bear Stearns’ collapse, Jim Cramer: “Bear Stearns is fine … Bear Stearns is not in trouble. Don’t be silly … Don’t move your money.”

Go to the tape, watch it three times and then tell us whether you think he was talking about the Bear INVESTMENT or a Bear DEPOSIT. Then slow down and think twice about your 'call', because this goes directly to YOUR CREDIBILITY, not Cramer's!

If you screw this one up, I, for one, will studiously ignore all your future bullshit.

      Apple Grows a 'Developer Ecosystem'
      Steven,

Point made, but look at this: Apple wants lots of developers using the OS X (Mac OS X) SDK. The more, the merrier. The number of developers a platform has presents significant competitive advantage to that platform. Aside from the complexity, delay, and cost your solution would add, Apple wants to TEACH it's SDK.

Every added developer is a plus and, who knows? maybe the iPhone/Mac SDK will move to market parity w/ the Windows SDK. One thing for sure, developers will be delighted with the increased speed, capabilities, and elegance of Apple's SDKs.

Hopefully, the best and brightest developers will make the switch and develop many best in class apps for Apple's SDKs, perhaps not even porting to Windows.

      - the size and impact of current and projected US debt,
