My response answered the question "why do Blackberry longs point out each misstep made by Apple?" It had nothing to do with profit margins, retail sales per sf or downloads.

I think you're mixing your metaphors there - do we want to talk about innovation and superior craftsmanship or do we want to talk about sales results? The two are different you know.

Don't confuse market share with being the best. And dont underestimate the contribution the US government plays in supporting American innovation at the expense of other, often superior products. Americans dominate markets, but not because they are better at innovating, just better at protecting their own interests.

We care, because eventually the market becomes aware that they've been had, and when they turn on their former darling it is not pretty. Each Apple mis-step is another nail in that coffin, and that is why BB longs remark on them - iBendy, iTV, you're holding it wrong, iMap brief replacement for Google, iWatchmymoneydisappear - these are all case in point. There are plenty of companies, tech and otherwise, that posted sensational numbers, right up until they didn't. The savvy investor looks for those opportunities; follow the herd and you're only going to get stomped.

Which era are you referring to? I'm not seeing anything particularly new or even good coming from Apple. They couldn't even figure out how to get the apple watch to transmit data properly when worn by their core demographic, millennials, who are almost uniformly tattooed. This speaks volumes about how out of touch the behemoth has become.

"It is true, BlackBerry was smart to bake their security knowledge into their handsets from day one, but this is quite different than having knowledge that others do not possess."

How valuable is knowledge you cannot use?

Nowhere is this equation more true than in technology:

Nonsense. BYOD allows some healthcare workers to use ios, but company issued phones to all personnel is blackberry where I come from. There is utterly no chance of medical data being transmitted on an ios device in Canada, and in many other countries where personal information is protected by law.

I took a small position at 124.00 and may add to it if SP drops significantly following earnings call next week. I am long VMI and can take the dividends while waiting a few years for the stock to reach previous highs. What is your best guess for that timeline?
