  • Apple: iPhone Is Not Dead, It's About To Come Alive  [View article]
Today I can text make calls and review messages all without getting my phone out. If I want to read a book or surf the internet I would much rather use my iPad. Combine a phone with a watch with a truly "functional assistant" and I am not sure you really want a "bigger" phone. I have a 6s now and at times I really miss the size of my iPhone 4s. When the phone just becomes the hub why not let it be small. I really think it wold be a mistake to get rid of that small phone.

  • Apple Earnings: Taking A Long-Term View  [View article]
I tried to do a home automation effort a few weeks ago and researched everything on the market using home kit. I was really disappointed. There is nothing out there that was really serious.
There is so much potential and yet so little capability. This is just one of a number of areas they just need to move forward on. One product can not cary the company. Hopefully the accelerated R&D spending is doing that.

  • Goldcorp Inc.: Let's Call It The 'Cockroach Effect'  [View article]
I can see the correlation between the dollar and GG. Makes a lot of sense and I believe there have been multiple articles attesting to this correlation. Oil is more interesting. I have often wondered about the investment portfolios of the oil rich nations and if when they get squeezed with low oil prices if they do not have to cover deficits with assets some of which must be gold.

Regarding analysts, this is the biggest BS area in investing. Trying to "figure out" how they come up with results is nonsense sand if we really knew we would probably be horrified. It is my humble opinion they deliberately manipulate stocks and markets and are an impediment to a free and honest trading.

  • Buy CVR Refining For Unit Price Appreciation Leading Up To Ex-Distribution Date  [View article]
To add to all of this the lifting of the export ban has reduced the Brent premium. Adding Iranian Brent will not help as well. I would assume that the differential between Brent and WTI is going to be close to 0.

I still see these refineries having some competitive operational edges. Their proximity to oil and their ability to pick and chose higher profitability oil by bypassing Cushing. (among other things)

I do worry about the analysts though undermining this stock price over the short term. I for one would not invest short term on this stock. My advice is to be prepared to go long or stay out.

  • Goldcorp -3.7% as Credit Suisse downgrades  [View news story]
Analysts in their current form should be outlawed. They manipulate the markets in a unfair way. They both have inside information AND just do stupid Sh&t that can damage a stock for no good financial reason. It is beyond my belief that some of these guys are not profiting from their very actions. Therefore one has to believe that their actions are benefiting them financially.

This is why many people thing that some of the market is rigged. These guys are a significant part of that!

  • Apple's App Economy Indicates Increasing iPhone Sales Momentum  [View article]
Scott, the thing is if the stock goes to $100 a share then AAPL can buy a lot more shares in their repurchase for the money they have allocated. That is good for us investors over the long term. I sometimes thing Tim Cook and the boys foster these rumors to periodically enhance their ability to capitalize on those stupid enough to sell into a down stock price. Also note that Iger tried to counter the analyst and it did no good.

  • Apple: The Growing Pains Of Reality?  [View article]
What? All stocks (except Gold) would go down if a market completely collapsed which there is no way a government like China will permit. However, if people stop investing in one market those investment dollars will go somewhere and the other markets will eventually benefit helping to drive a stellar stock like AAPL up.

The problem with these articles is there does not seem to be any consequences when the authors get things wrong. I actually usually find more good information in the comments.
My own opinion on all of this is everyone knows AAPL is so secretive anything could be happening and we would never know. When people use data that is in short supply they are really just guessing. Considering AAPL's track record I just would not guess/bet against them. If I had some free cash, I would be buying AAPL just like I did when the stock went below $500 (pre split).

  • Why Apple Is Stuck In Purgatory  [View article]
Not every product has to be a star out of the gate like the iPhone. Apple has been putting some pretty good products out on a regular basis. Each one of them has the ability to evolve considerably. Because of its very large and loyal base they need to get this right. They can not just ship crap and hope it sticks. I really think that a lot of people just do not get this and thus discount it when calculating the value of the company

  • Apple: Scaling The Great Wall A Real Challenge  [View article]
As the saying goes, "Follow the money". I really do not care for market share or anything else as long as AAPL finds a way to generate EPS! All of this other crap is just a distraction.

  • Goldcorp: Time To Buy  [View article]
I think the quote was 300 tons per year (not 300 million tons) versus 3000 tons per year production. That seems reasonable although it would be nice to see the basis of that 300. Since gold here on earth is finite I am more interested in the impact of exhausting existing reserves and the cost of developing additional reserves. I think this issue is much more complex (and significant to pricing) then just looking at the industrial use of gold. I also think demand in China and India may be a bigger factor as well. The author may actually be discussing a "secondary affect" on gold prices.

  • Apple: Capitulating To The Content Owners (For Now)  [View article]
APPL has made a lot of money for investors over the last couple of year. When investing, timing is really hard to do, and every serious investor will tell you trying to closely time investments is very problematic. However, the numbers are not difficult to interpret and Apple has the numbers. I have listened to nay sayers for the last 5 years about how APPLE can't possible thrive and they keep doing so. I see no reason why they can not keep doing so and based on their track record I see no reason not to assume they will.

There is just one thing that all of this discussion forgets. Apple is now a company that goes after the money. If the market does not make them (enough) money then they do not go after it. All you techies may complain product details but as an investor I really like what Cook is doing. I would suggest those who believe stick with the stock and those that do not stop Bi%$&ing and go buy Amazon (who can not seem to make money to save themselves)

  • The New Apple iPad Pro Appears Targeted At Amateurs  [View article]
Not sure why this guy writes or Alpha accepts his articles on Apple. All he does is find ways to crap on the products and company. Having said that the one thing that I am really looking forward to is using that new stylus. I do a LOT of sketches and by my initial look this is going to finally make it possible to do a decent job on a portable electronic platform. I think the real challenge that the iPad pro will have is some of the applications needed to make this really useful to the professional are going to have to cost more then a a couple of bucks. Will iPad users pay one or two hundred dollars for an iPad application. Time will tell.

  • CVR Partners misses by $0.21, misses on revenue  [View news story]
Normal investors can never beat guys like Icahn. He will always throw us under the bus whenever he can. We can only understand what he is doing and try to either stay out of their way and not get hurt by their actions or find a way to piggy back on their actions. The comments here are really helpful in making a decision in how not to get damaged further.
