Tom, certainly I must be misinterpreting your comments above. A stock's price does not drop on "ex" due to sell-offs but rather as an efficient market's valuation of the stock in direct relation to the measure of the dividend amount. My experience has shown quite the opposite effect that an ex-div date presents an attractive buy-in point, not a sell opportunity. In this particular event, the price opened $1.23 lower than the previous close and continued to drop due to strange market conditions at the time. Probably largely due to the large dividend payout and the result of stop-loss orders not taking account of the dividend amount, creating a strong negative momentum for the day, which is unfortunate.

I agree that NTI is a good company with strong fundamentals and is at a *very* attractive buy point. Everyone should bear in mind that NTI operates under a strong variable distribution MLP policy and does not guarantee the same performance quarter after quarter. In fact, they advised again of their distribution payout policy during their conference call..."quarterly distribution will not be stable and will vary".

  • 3D Systems (DDD) shareholders signed off on increasing the company's share authorization to 220M from 120M at its annual meeting. The 3D printer maker says the increase restores its flexibility to use stock "for appropriate corporate purposes." Do those purposes include another split and/or acquisitions? [View news story]
While not usually a huge fan of the dilution caused by an offering, it is probably best to remember that this is an emerging market and the market is proven, albeit in a very limited scope. They'll need cash to keep "emerging", we'll just have to see if we have enough patience to reap the rewards in the end. At least they're making *some* money...and currently, their bottom line margins might make other, more established companies envious.
