Dr. Marc R. Kossmann is a clinical psychologist who founded and manages Blue Fire Properties, LLC. Blue Fire Properties, LLC was established in 2005.

"I started Blue Fire Properties when it became clear to me that our health care system was hopelessly broken. There was simply no way I was going to continue working with insurance companies as they continued to dismantle the ability to provide quality psychological services.

Real Estate investing was a natural fit for me. Most investors are uncomfortable dealing with distressed home owners. As a psychologist, that was not a significant concern. I simply took my clinical work into a new venue. I am still dealing with people in distress and helping to craft a creative solution to their problems. I am typically dealing with defaulting home owners who are heading into foreclosure. As you can imagine, the market is huge right now.

In fact, that is the greatest challenge. We no longer have to search for property. The chase is to line up investors fast enough to fund these amazing opportunities. While we work with traditional bank lenders, I have a philosophical preference for working with individual investors. For me, money is and should be a very personal affair. I want to be able to look my investor in the eye and take the time to understand his or her goals and desires. And I want them to do the same with me. Your money is not a commodity to me, it is the fruit of your labor. I think you should maintain a very personal connection to your money. You should know where it is and what it is doing at all times.

I have no desire to be big or fancy. This is about one investor and one property at a time. I take the time to make sure that everyone involved in the transaction is happy. That means I have to get what I want, but so do the seller, the investor, and the end buyer. If any of those links is weak, we end the deal before it begins. We move on. There is so much opportunity right now that there is no excuse for forcing something."
