Will Apple's Q1 2009 Revenue Estimates Be a Blowout?

If they are not getting iPhones, kids are getting iPod Touches. Most of the functionality (sans phone, 3G network, and GPS) is in them, but not the ongoing monthly expense...
Jonathan Ive: More Valuable to Apple than Steve Jobs? [View article]
"Any other entrants into Apps markets are simply also-rans.... no vision but great at copycatting. Huh. Petition indeed! What a joke."
Right, Windows Mobile had a 6-7 year head start, and what did they do: copy Windows (desktop) complete with Start menu. It took Apple to be innovative in this space, and now everyone is copying them.

It seems in its efforts to remain a "premium" brand, Apple has mostly stayed away from getting in the ad business. Sure, they list "top picks" on iTunes, but that's not quite the same thing as displaying another NetFlix ad. Apple knows that ads cheapen products.
And, just as important, ad revenues are unpredictable. They don't want their stock value tied to the marketing decisions of other companies.
I thought the original iPhone's revenues and earnings were recorded that way because AT&T gave Apple a cut of their service revenue off the devices. Not so with the iPhone 3G.
"How do you think Steve Jobs funded all the new R&D that gave us the first imac to start??"
The first iMac came out shortly after Jobs took over. He may have improved the details and future iMacs but most of the R&D for the first one came before his time.
iPhone Can Replace Laptops for Majority of Computer Users [View article]
One day we'll all be using an iPhone or some other mobile device and get rid of the traditional PC and laptop. It will connect (wirelessly) to a larger, higher-res screen and full-sized keyboard when needed. It may even "plug" into a portable screen/keyboard that looks like today's laptops. All applications and our data will be in the cloud.
130,000 people have registered with O2 for 3G iPhone updates compared with 35,000 for the original iPhone, so it appears this model will sell much better in Europe. If the carriers/makers agree with Yourope that the iPhone is such a dud, why are they trying "kill" it? They should ignore it, and it will go away, right?

I agree, Marcel. Those facts are real. Windows Mobile is not a small player in the market, they just feel that way. Microsoft just wanted to remind developers.
By the way, I can't wait to get the new iPhone (my first). I have a Windows Mobile "smart phone" (Cingular/AT&T 8125). It does everything the iPhone does, but nothing well or easy. And I've downloaded some of the applications for this phone. Each time is a pain in the a$$. The iPhone won't have that problem at least...
Will 'Free' Make Money for Netflix? [View article]
Do we know that this content will be free forever? More likely this is a smart strategy to get the boxes in homes, then sell premium content for profit. Without a hard drive or large cache, however, I'm not sure how they can stream quality HD to most homes for several years, if not more.
Apple's iPhone 2.0 'Bigger than the Personal Computer' [View article]
Obviously, not everyone buys the cheapest product available. If they did, even Wal-Mart would sell only one TV, one tire, and one shirt. It comes down to value. I have a Windows Mobile Cingular 8125 and have been waiting for Exchange support before buying an iPhone. June can't come fast enough!
And as for the 70/30 revenue split with developers ... Do you know how hard it is to find, buy and install applications on my phone today? The effort it takes to figure it out is the main reason I rarely do it.
Reality Check is right -- this is bigger than the iPod.
Apple's "Anywhere" iPhone Has Far From Peaked [View article]
Apple doesn't base its prices on costs or the competition. It prices according to value. Fortunately, the value Apple brings to the market in hardware/software integration and ease-of-use is much greater than its costs and 2-3 generations ahead of what its competition can do.

Of course, history says that Windows Mobile 7 will come along and destroy both. That's where my analogy breaks down...
