Ethanol and Biodiesel: Two Very Different Biofuels
The author of the above article fails to take note of a fundamental concept when dealing with ethanol, esp. as it relates to Vinod Khosla. This concept is called the 'Biohols' trajectory and encompasses all of the above (excluding biodesiel, which is a separate entity and has it's own trajectory).

This trajectory 'predicts' current ethanol production volumes/per method (i.e. cellulosic or corn) and relates it to a time scale. Effectively as one production type becomes redundant the next generation takes over on this trajectory giving us a historical/future plan of how ethanol production is taking on the energy crisis.

The author assumes Vinod Khosla, started only with corn in mind, punting it, and is now desperately looking to jump ship as corn looses favour and start with cellulosic as a new unforeseen saviour.

The plan was always to kick start the ethanol ball rolling with corn, until now, when cellulosic technology became viable and ready to be put into production. This is the next step in the biohols trajectory. If and when cellulosic becomes redundant with regards to ethanol, then a new technology will take over in the future. All this was foreseen and corn, although never an intended long-term solution had to be the first step in creating an ethanol sector.
