  • More Bullishness for Oil Heading into 2010 [View article]
As beneficial as it may be to discuss the big picture regarding oil
availability vs global demand, it may be just as significant in maintaining a discussion regarding the underlying currents of the proven oil fields currently available to the US vs future availability to the US at reasonable costs . . . expecially when observing continuing, negative trends which include (but not limited to)
Venezuela redirecting their oil contracts away from the US, to China; the dwindling life of Mexico's Cantrell Fields and; the anti-energy bias of the US initiated by the 'environmentalist/global warming' clique.

  • $200 Oil Is Coming While We Waste a Perfectly Good Crisis (Part 3) [View article]
Rahm Emanuel's comment regarding not letting a good crises go to waste was referring to self-interested members of the political class who regularly play in the political sand box at the taxpayers' expense . . . and was not referring to patriotic individuals, successful businessmen or distinguished statesmen with foresight.

The need of implementing a transitional plan into multiple energy sources (oil, coal gasification, natural gas, geothermal, solar, nuclear) at reasonable market rates to the masses should have been engaged in upon oil trumpetting a market price of $147/BBL . . . as though a global war had been declared. For it will be a break down on a global order for facilitating cheap transport of food stuff to many highly populated areas that will become evident to the shortsighted individuals who just so happen to occupy political positions (of national leadership and oversight).

The false political leaders will still be selling dreams of hope and change; touting more power should be given to government . . . all the while remaining silent about or preventing the powerful free market forces being unleashed in order to function in an efficient and effective manner.

And although, after a few trillion dollars being spent and a national deficit becoming recognizably unsustainable, the people are belatedly catching on. It is most unfortunate that the awareness will be of little consequence in preventing the pain and suffering that we will all be exposed to by not already having implemented plans for our not so distant, future energy needs.

  • Oil Prices, Global GDP, and Net Oil Exports  [View article]
As the number of net oil exporters diminish how likely will it be to experience an economic energy war (of sorts) and what will the likely significant aspects look like in macro and micro economic considerations.

  • And You Think Today's Gas Prices Are High?  [View article]
The US standard of living will naturally find a new, lower equilibrium point for having the pendulum swung excessively past the point of moderation in the western capitalism system.

Absolutely fascinating times in the history of the US being at the crossroads: Energy & Politics (leaning socialist, more and higher taxes as well as more entitlements at lower quality levels, more waste, fraud & abuse facilitated by bureaucratic environment, battling the environmentalists' ghosts, continual growth of the North American Forum with open borders and clemency of current illegals, weakening of the US military complex, Middle East powder keg).

  • Pay Attention to Oil Decline Rates [View article]
When the field as a whole goes into decline, as it must some day, it will be the beginning of the end of the oil age, given Ghawar’s size. Stay tuned . . .

The case could be made 'today' (imho) that we have already passed the threshold of the oil age decline as evidenced by global oil price
having migrated to a maximum equilibrium level. Thus, necessitating the current transition into any and all available energy sources that hopefully will result in securing or developing an efficient, cheap, long-term energy source.

  • Investing Into the End of the Hydrocarbon Age [View article]
Appears as though the message is lost for some in that one energy source (electron) will enable more freedom and flexibility. That is, where and how energy source is implemented with ease of oversight and service, all the while being able to maintain and update the existing grid and off-grid storage capabilities. Whereas, the future's continual hunt, discovery, bargaining and servicing of a specific energy field (oil & gas) is inefficient, unpredictable and subject to unfair leverage of power players - including representative/dictato... governments, direct/indirect buisness interests, designated committees or armed thugs).

  • Congressional Insanity: Sue OPEC over Oil Prices [View article]
Maybe it is the US Congress that should be considered in violation of the RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act, Title 18, United States Code, Sections 1961 - 1968. . . being bankrupt in acting responsibly, providing appropriate oversight and providing long term leadership to act . . . whether it be an energy policy, securing the national borders, failing to maintain the integrity of the US dollar, not curtailing waste, fraud and abuse of taxpayers' monies, physical properties and institutions.

Have a safe and pleasurable Memorial Day.

  • The Department of Energy Fails Us [View article]
    . . . contacted the DOE a couple years ago to discuss . . .

I would be guessing that you have come to realize you were communicating with a bureaucratic entity created by the political class having powers of oversight; therefore, regarding their 'mission' and action plan, all US citizens are equal (as in irrelevant).

  • Peak Oil: While Washington Sleeps... [View article]
. . . the United States had succeeded in its great, historical mission - globalizing the world.

Although a significant issue is currently being addressed in global energy, so too will a significant issue be addressed in global foods/agriculture . . . but in a greater magnitude.

  • Toward a U.S. Energy Policy [View article]
Jim, admittedly the compilation of your energy sector writings may be one of the best in providing pertinent, in-depth overview regarding the industry in mostly macroeconomic terms that the general public has access to.

But don't you believe you are preaching mostly to individuals who could be classified as your choir members? That is, folks more readily in tune to the energy environment; whereas, it is the failings of the US Congress that places party partisanship, interests of lobbyists and maintenance of their own self-created fiefdoms above the interests of 'the people'.

Given the mindset of how the US Government has presented itself in modern history is, in fact, not only a disgrace but what the National priority should be focussed on: cleansing and righting the US Congressional mindset as well as creating and implementing thoughtful, actionable, long-term plans in a transparent manner. And if not now, then when and by whom?
