You have it backwards. China got itself into this mess with currency policy. Now it complains endlessly about an undervalued dollar. If they didn't behave this way, the "imbalances" would have corrected themselves already years ago.

Gosh I'm sick of hearing China complain.

They chose to intentionally deflate their currency beyond belief and restrict currency exchange. They chose to put 80+% into one bucket. They chose their reserve currency. If they wanted guarantees on their agency debt holdings, they should have bought treasuries with a smaller return. China has done all of this intentionally and then wants to portray a "poor China" image.

Last year my company started a fund to support earthquake victims in China. WHAT??! China is loaded with reserves. Why are we donating money?

Explain to me again why the US ever got into protected trade agreements with a totalitarian government like China. The US escorted them into the WTO with absolutely no conditions whatsoever. China has no qualms about stealing patented products, processes, intellectual property, pharmaceutical products, blocking US competition within China. What would the trade balance be like without this theft and fixed FX? Maybe "slightly" better?

Check out the latest consequence of their antics. Chinese counterfeit malaria drugs killing people and creating a "superbug" parasite.

Fine. Let's open up legal immigration including immigrants from places where people can't even visit the US without a visa, such as much of Eastern Europe, Australia, Brazil, Asia, and so on. Sorry Dave. That just doesn't cut it. You can't say "Europe's problems have been largely caused by the US" unless you believe Europe's successful bull run was also largely caused by the US.

I like Harless' argument a lot, although it's not made often. Of course the US should be buying Euros. If China can manipulate markets this way, so can everyone else.

The problem is no one wants to admit that the government owns these banks now. Whoever owns a company can set whatever salary they want.

When the govt. no longer owns them, the new owner can jack up the salaries.

If they don't like $500k, they can quit. It's very simple.

If someone takes the $500k and succeeds, that person will be a hero or financial wizard and thoroughly rewarded for years to come. That is a huge incentive already.
