  • AMD now -15.3% AH due to light Q3 outlook [View news story]
Rory read makes more money shorting his own stock. This is strictly my own opinion and cannot be proved. There is no way that a company can operate like this without gross incompetence. I could sit around the bar drinking a beer and writing a better business model on a cocktail napkin.

  • AMD's Dual Graphics: Power And Efficiency For Mobile Computing [View article]
If you think fair value is $3.75 then you and AMD management have been bashed in so hard that you can't see the problem with this companies philosophy of aggressive self determination. They wait to be punched in the face by the competitor and the value languishes where it is. Rory Read has had two years to figure things out. If you can't anticipate markets and how your competitors going to react to your products, and getting them in other products you have a different problem altogether. AMD as purely as a design firm is completely retarded.

  • Advanced Micro Devices Is Moving Away From 20nm, Rejoice Or Despair? [View article]
The only things this does is give them alot of financial flexibility for the next five years. I don't think we need to read much more into this bond offering.

Great...now the military can have a billboard sign along the side of their Jets and Tanks that says "F@ck You, Al Qahda!" when shooting!

Has somebody communicated this to AMD management lately. Because the share price still has it tagged as an inferior Intel substitute.

It should really be "How many transistors can you fit into sq. mm" and what does it cost per die to make. Unless there's some kind of magical need for a smaller shrink that allows great things to happen and people will pay for it...it would be a waste to shrink if it costs too much.

  • AMD Vs. Intel: The Next Big Technology Race [View article]
He needs to explain why his sales percentages have stagnated for the past five years. Two of which he's overseen. The only way this stock goes somewhere is if AMD has more protected markets that Intel can't touch combined with a general defection from many other PC OEMS. Hasn't happened soooo............

Not to mention that 28nm is going to be around this whole year 2014. They can still sell everything they can make including selling at a reduced profit if there's a slight excess inventory. The reward is greater than the risk...

That's whats got me scared. Rory Read didn't seem to enthusiastic at the last report which has me under the suspicion that "Others" tell him what to say at these quarterly reports. Makes a nice tidy sum to tank your stock by almost a $1 and collect options money.

"If you are selling 20% more volume at a 5%-10% discounted margin then that works for me."

Example $1,400 Billion at 35% margin equals $490 million
20% less is $1,120 Billion at 45% margin equals $504 million hmmm!

Current AMD market cap $2.7 Billion

Nvidia $1140 gross earnings and a market cap of $10.2 billion...

It's what you net after expenses not your gross income. Unless your really big and your markets are not perversely affected by Intel at a whims notice then smaller margins can work. Intel is actively managing their competition and AMD management goes along with it. Hence they look stupid!

No one trusts AMD management anymore which makes them a target for takeover........That's why you should own the stock!

Yes, your right I don't get AMD's business model. I don't give a darn about designing chips for free so that Apple, Dell, Toshiba, HP can pop them in their computers and sell them for massively higher profits. AMD used to not sell to ANY OEMS on a mass scale 10+ years ago and they used to net $150 million a quarter easily. It's when they had to take the hind Tit behind Intel that everything went Bad. Now AMD is beholden to OEMs and sell at huge discounts and no longer profits. It's been turned into a foil against Intel and simply exists to thwart Intel into lower CPU and APU prices. It will never grow up unless AMD demands 50% of the market share or engages in another business model that's consistently profitable no matter what Intel does. After five years of this I could care less what AMD management does...

"Q2 and Q3 will tell the tale as to whether the market is buying the chips AMD is selling or not."

But at what price? If your selling at 35% margin that's whats killing the stock. Other than bad margins on gaming consoles why are they stuck at 35%? IMHO it's just bad planning and bad vision in the short to medium term 2-3 years thats killed the stock.

Sure you can! It was another bad contract by AMD and reinforces the perception that they cannot plan for what the market will do. AMD looks like Clark Kent but we all know that if they go all Darknight(Batman) she might actually go somewhere....

You say Read is focused...most likely on the wrong business model. by the time they get where they want too, the markets have shifted again. Until Read can say AMD can earn $200 million a quarter no matter what Intel does this stock will stay supressed.
