  • Transocean cut to Sell with $10 price target at Clarkson [View news story]
Well, on the second try, the headline is correct but the first bullet point states that they're DROPPING to $15, cut from $10. WTF? Who's editing this?

  • Transocean - Time To Buy This Beaten-Down Driller [View article]
    nasa_rs,
This is not the investment for you. RIG is a long-term, multi-year investment. This is nothing you should be buying on margin. Near term, I only see down and am hoping for it as I've sold puts that will double my position if it's under $15 on the third Friday of August, which I'd like to see and do expect. If you're using margin to buy stocks like RIG, I would seriously advise to step back and re-evaluate you're entire strategy. Look for momentum movers, RIG is not one.
From your post, it sounds like you're trying to make a quick buck on RIG with borrowed money. This is just not the stock for that. Best of luck.

  • Transocean - Why More Downside Cannot Be Ruled Out [View article]
I don't understand the Saudi strategy. Shale oil seems to have set them off, hurting all drillers. Apparently, shale drilling was marginal and has dropped off dramatically, but it can come back just as fast. The offshore drillers move more slowly; slow to shut down and slow to recover. But their stock prices move more quickly in anticipation. In any case, if oil prices rise, the Saudis will facing the same competition; they can't wipe it out permanently. So, whatever their plan is, are they succeeding? I'm not bringing up that they may be punishing countries/regions, and that might be a factor.

  • U.S. Energy Independence: You May Have Missed The News - It Has Already Happened [View article]
Also, ethanol has less energy than gasoline ( I believe it's 15% less, could be wrong) so "gasahol" results in less miles per gallon. And it's a killer on older vehicles that weren't designed for it, especially any rubber or plastic parts. Plus, ethanol attracts water like a magnet (it's miscible). That causes huge problems, not for combustion but for water corrosion. I had a pickup that sat for six months and the fuel pump quit working. When I pulled it out it was just a big lump of rust. That would never have happened with pure gasoline. $$$. In my opinion, ethanol in gasoline was a terrible idea; I've heard that Al Gore even admitted that. I have a 250 gallon tank and I have 93 octane non-ethanol gas delivered. It costs about 10% more but the cost is more than covered by better mileage and less damage. EVERYTHING runs better on non-ethanol: mowers, outboards, chainsaws, generators, pumps, and vehicles. Ethanol is less expensive than gasoline so if the sticker on the pump says "may contain up to 10% ethanol", you can bet it contains at least 10%. I'm not saying retailers are dishonest but they determine how much ethanol is added and it's easy to cheat. Are you sure you're getting all the energy you're paying for? Ok, I'm done ranting; the hell I am.

  • Not Fooled By The Earnings Beat - Transocean Is A Sell For Me [View article]
I would like to see it below $15 on the third Friday of August, by $.10. I've sold a significant number of puts that would add shares at $12.50, which I would like. If not, I'll be happy with the premium, but I'd prefer to be assigned.

  • Decision Made... Philip Morris > Lorillard [View article]
    Author:
You could have inflated your numbers by 1000x and impressed a lot more people. But I'm impressed by someone who is carefully watching over their first small investments and can ill afford to be wrong. Thanks for your well thought out post and I think you will do well, much better than the bankers who were very cavalier with billions and lost everything. Although, they were smart/connected enough to be made whole by us, the taxpayers. We don't have that luxury.
I wonder how many here would value their advice over yours.

  • DISH Announces Internet Pay-TV Service: $20 A Month, But With Major Limitations [View article]
This is a double-post from SA article #2205435 (http://seekingalpha.co...) but I can't resist posting the first comment.
To me, Dish streaming is an oxymoron. It is my view that most of the people who use Dish satellite need it because they have no alternative, although I've seen Dish receivers on houses in California where I know they have excellent cable service including fiber optic to the home, so who knows. I live in a rural area at the end of the line for ATT DSL, limited to 150 GB/month without extra charges, which I regularly exceed transferring IC design files, so no streaming for me. I have an OTA antenna with an amplifier that's TIVO'd which is more than I can watch but She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed wants a few channels that Dish adds so I keep it up. If I did have cable, Dish is the last thing I would stream, especially considering the limited offerings mentioned in this article.
As far as NFLX is concerned, this is mice nuts.

Check your emails, several opportunities appear daily. The only yield laggard is Nigeria but they're pretty good about getting your money up front. Other than that, you could look at T, but it's not totally risk-free.

He stated that he sold his RIG shares and could rebuy them. I shouldn't speak for him but I inferred that he's assuming that RIG will drop its dividend which, to me, is 50/50.
