  • Demystifying Dry Bulk Shipping: Low P/E Companies That Aren't Properly Valued [View article]
What is the general consensus on COSCO's role in the drybulk landscape? Not traded on the NASDAQ or NYSE (but on the singapore & HK exchanges I believe) it seems to be flying under the radar. I am under the impression COSCO has the largest of the fleets, and with such a close tie to China, shouldn't we consider it a better choice to play the China trade?

  • Microsoft: It's Not Our Fault Our Operating System Sucks [View article]
"Wireless carriers kept MSFT from making good phone software. " Ha! That's a new one. If Microsoft really wanted to build a good, nimble phone OS, it would have to start from scratch, and ditch the Windows OS lineage. The end result would not have been compatible with the Windows OS. And Microsoft would not have had any leverage in the mobile world -- you couldn't run any Windows apps like Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint, etc., on the phone, and Microsoft would not be able to extend its desktop domination to the mobile world.

Of course, the typical MBA school case study tells you, "Don't step into an arena in which we have no leverage or advantage" -- so they did the typical thing: Make Windows Mobile somewhat compatible with Windows OS. The end result is the sucky software.

The iPhone OS is based on the Mach micro kernal -- the same thing OS x is based on. It's small, it's nimble, and the little David is kicking Goliath's butt.
