  • While job vacancies have risen since the end of the recession, firms aren't necessarily filling them, and hiring is still way below levels prior to the financial crisis. A study of "recruiting intensity" indicates that company's aren't in a hurry to recruit staff, especially with the recovery so bumpy.  [View news story]
You have to be blind not to see healthcare and the rising costs not figuring into hiring ! Why would any company make any move before the Supreme Court makes it's landmark choice and all the follow up moves are made. It isn't like there is any huge demand for goods an services that are not being handled.
The principal behind productivity is shrinking the workforce and the wave of buyouts and takeovers are looking for synergies. That means more workforce shrinkage too !
    Common sense ?

  • The FDA has blocked J&J's (JNJ) application to widen the use of its Xarelto blood thinner to prevent heart attacks and strokes in people with acute coronary syndrome, a market estimated at $1B. J&J said it will work with the FDA to address their questions, indicating it hasn't given up hope of eventually getting the authorization.  [View news story]
JNJ will work with the FDA.. Wow, what a novel idea. Normally they ignore the FDA and sell the products for years until the law suits are filed. Like the vaginal mess units. Took them years to get caught.

I know there are fans of this company, but, if you want growth and dividends an have no conscience then buy PM or another known killer !

  • Banco Santander: Clean Bill Of Health Spells Opportunity [View article]
Spanish bank auditors have proven woefully ineffective over an over. It will take years to get a handle on the real estate valuations ! I do like your mention on the preferred shares. A safer way to go. I live in LA and have several shifts of Spaniards working for me in Panama. The real estate woes forced them all to seek employment overseas. Luck to them Panama is booming and they need no work Visas down here as Panama wants them !

I know SAN has exposure in LA an other areas and that gives them an additional earnings pool, but, i'll wait a while before buying.

Thanx for the article ! DL

  • The Supreme Court decision on Obamacare is likely to be one of the biggest decisions of our lifetime, says the Kaufman Foundation's Robert Litan. For businesses, the waiting has been the hardest part. Most experts don't think the court will strike down the healthcare law in its entirety, but it could happen. If it does, the economic impact could wind up being "tremendous," Litan says, especially when you consider that medical care accounts for over 18% of U.S. GDP.  [View news story]
Has too be good that Justice Ginsburg was so angry when she gave her speach. She either tipped the courts hand or was trying to send Justice Kennedy a memo via the press..

I think its now 65- 35% down.I was worried Kennedy wouldn't want his legacy as blocking a landmark social program.

  • New Zealand's GDP grew a much faster-than-expected 1.1% in Q1, helped by a rise in agriculture and business services. Economists had targeted 0.5% growth. It's NZ's fastest pace of growth in nearly five years, but some strategists worry "the large rise will only cast further doubt on the veracity of the national accounts data, which have been subject to considerable revisions recently."  [View news story]
No sir, like their currency and see it gaining over most !

  • An independent audit, due out today, will reportedly show that Spanish banks need around €65B ($82B) to recapitalize, far less than the €150B speculated upon earlier this week, and more in line with Fitch and IMF estimates of €40-€80B. There have been fears that the EU's €100B rescue won't be enough.  [View news story]
This estimate is bogus to the max ! The extent of the real estate horror won't be know for 3 to 5 years at a minimum ! Really !

Anyone want shares in the EU - US pond bridge ? I am selling them. 80 bucks a share and there is ak 11,000% yield ! Call 1 800 ponziDL

  • Spain sells €2.22B of bonds, exceeding the target range of €1B-2B, but yields for 5-year paper rise to 6.072%, the highest in fifteen years and a jump from the 4.960% yield last month.  [View news story]
Funny, 5 years isn]t that long and there are many pros who tell clients to buy that paper for a 6% yield ...

Wow ! I live in LA and banks and Credit unions will safely hold your US dollars and pay up to 8.5% interest for a 5 tear CD without the currency risk !

Crazy man ! The sheep can be led ..eh !

  • The Fed "isn't going to be buying European sovereign debt," Bernanke says before wrapping up his news conference. Those looking for hints of a bigger QE3 were thwarted, as usual, but the questions now are coalescing around a single one: If the Fed "can do more" if necessary - why isn't it doing it now? (Earlier: Fed statement; projections)  [View news story]
If I were king Gov Perry would be Fed chair and Ben would be with both Bernie's... Bernie M and Bernie E as I owned WCOM and I got 53 bucks from the class action !

  • Those expecting the Fed to announce further stimulus measures today are bound to be disappointed, writes Lance Roberts. With the Chairman concerned about the diminishing returns of each additional stimulus program conditions hardly seem to rate action at the moment. Look for the Fed to leave the door open, but no more.  [View news story]
Of course the herd will be disappointed he has already provide a few miracles, but, did you have to lead with the word "looms" ? That word scares me ! LOOMS... Sounds too ominous.
