Gratian, like I say, ALL big yields are red flags. But, PT was just an example and mriets are a dying breed IMHO as they may be attacked on several fronts soon ! Also, the US bonds will sell off an rates will rise.
So, I think the high telco yields are safer then the mreit yields and PT seems to be more of a stock sell off more than an outrageous payout.

So,( if) I can see a dividend reduction in a PT as a possible boost to the stock price, but, mreit cuts in dividends will crush stock prices as there holders expect big yields.........If that makes sense !

I own a few foreign telcos as they pay big and in recessions ppl still talk and even the poor seem to be into there mobile devices an consider them as important as food.

PS.. I actually ment to use TEF as that has the big yield. PT is smaller and I mixed them up. Sorry, its late here an I am not as sharp as days gone by !

PS 2.. Foreign dividends are subject to 15% withholding an in some accounts you can't get IRS credits.

  • Iranian crude oil exports have fallen by 300,000 barrels/day in March, Reuters reports, a drop of 14% in Iran’s exports attributed to growing compliance to U.S.-led sanctions. Nymex crude spiked to $108.25, pulled back, and have steadily climbed back to $107, up 1.6%. Pres. Obama weighs in on the issue, saying Middle East tensions could add $20-$30 to oil prices.  [View news story]

    "why does the market"
The " market" is very efficient and like sports odds makers you pay to play. The reason that anyone buys NLY or the other mriets is the gigantic yield attracts them. But, it's a matter of timing. Life and the market are timing and a dash of luck........High yields are always a red flag.

There are always other ways to get big yields (eg) PT

The Only advise that is a must ! Stop loss orders. If you set your maximum loss you can at least try an limit your risk. Yes, there not fool proof ,but, a small loss sometimes can be the same as a big gain !

I am long NLY and I have a 15.50 stop > each dividend is part of the reward.

It just happens to be China. Not Bush's friends. China has all the contracts in Iraq and with the Kurdish Iraqis. The refineries are being built by Chinese an fancy that, another ignorant SA comment.

And, yes I was born in Baghdad an yes i bla bla the language and yes many of my family members work in the oil industry. In Iraq...

Maybe the Chinese will contract some work with US firms, but, not Iraq

  • Is Johnson & Johnson A Strong Buy Candidate? [View article]
JNJ is the GS of the drug industry. They make bogus harmful products an still sell them ! Last week that got caught selling bad vaginal mesh units and the FDA had found out JNJ was selling them years in advance. 550 law suits are coming. Maybe class action on the bogus hips they sold.. Why isn't Corsine running JNJ ?

Keep the dividend and by the way...don't use their baby shampoo as the carcinogens are still it that too !

LS, I disagree.... The US gets only 8% of it's oil from the ME. We don't even need that ,but, were capitalists and were exporting some of our sweet stuff and buying a little from overseas.

Bakken oil can be had for 70 bucks a barrel at times and refineries are selling gasoline as exports to those they can charge the most. If we had the pipelines and had more of the Canadian oil were still going to see the ME an newer cartel members regulate the prices outside the US. Thus the US companies will still sell to the highest buyers. So, pipelines might create jobs ,but, the world price will set the US prices and we don't want it any other way,, Were not communists ! Are we ?
