  • Ultra-Low-Risk Retirement Strategy For Folks Who've Saved $1 Million [View article]
RS, thanks for the article, I had not considered a deferred longevity annuity.

What types of annuities do you hate? Immediate annuities? They pay something like 6% for a single person, which sounds good to me - if the insurance company does not go bankrupt.

Ducat, I am interested to see this information about the environmental impact of this mine. Do you know where CEF gets their gold and silver, and whether they get it from environmentally responsible mines? A few miners get not-good press in a study downloadable from nodirtygold.org ("Troubled Waters: How Mine Waste Dumping is Poisoning our Oceans, Rivers and Lakes" - at: http://bit.ly/1jkLqf3). On the other hand, some miners such as Anglo American are founding members of the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA), which is formulating voluntary standards for miners.

I'm new around here, but does it make sense to assess the value of a company without taking into account future growth in sales?

Or to say that a company will never make money in the future because it doesn't make money when it sells only a limited number of units per year?

Thanks for the link to the great NYT article. SGB's website is here: http://bit.ly/1loBfIk
Looks like SGBiofuels is owned by two venture capital firms, an energy company, and a biotech company.

Thanks for your comments on this article and the recent article on 3D printing companies. I'm interested in knowing the leading stem cell companies, if you don't mind taking the time to send them. I hesitate to invest now because of the possibility of a market drop (I'm especially cautious after having read one of your posts on technical indicators). But I'd like to be prepared to take action when the time appears right.

  • 4 Green Dividend Stocks That Saw IPOs In 2013 [View article]
Thanks for your reply, I missed seeing that. I see that they also addressed the rising interest rate question on p. 8 of their 3rd quarter presentation. HASI is now my biggest stock position (still less than 3% of my holdings though - I am cautious).

Thanks very much for your recent highly informative articles on solar and other "green" energy companies. I'm happy to learn of these alternatives to the conventional oil & gas MLPs.

HASI's 2nd quarter investor presentation says that HASI makes money through a combination of interest income and fee income. If interest rates go up, I wonder if their income will be significantly affected; it may be more difficult to obtain financing at low rates.

  • The Solar Revolution: Part 1 [View article]
According to http://bit.ly/HssY6x, Renewable Energy Corporation ASA split into two companies on 25 October 2013: REC Solar ASA (RESCOL on the Oslo exchange) and REC Silicon ASA (REC on the Oslo exchange, RNWEF US OTC).

I own no stock in either company, just interested in learning more.

Thanks for the highly informative articles. In the unlikely event that you are not aware of NatCore's technology, check it out at http://bit.ly/1hI9NDz

I'd be very interested to read what you know about environmental issues like recycling of cells containing CdTe in Part 3 or a future article.

  • A Clean Energy REIT: Hannon Armstrong Sustainable Infrastructure [View article]
In a rising interest rate environment, will HASI be able to get the capital to fund new projects at reasonable cost? Someone asked that during the investor phone call, and I either didn't understand the response or it addressed only the issue of how HASI will continue to be profitable *if* they get capital. I don't see how that addresses the issue. Do you?

  • Selling Begets Selling: 4 Bond Market Cracks Threaten Rally In Risk Assets [View article]
Thanks much for the excellent, clear, informative article and for explaining the reasons for bond price moves in a way I could understand. If I'd read it when you wrote it on June 2nd, I would've gotten out of TIPS and GNMA funds a week earlier and lost less.
