  • Solazyme: It Isn't Easy (Or Profitable) Being Green [View article]
Ive read many "hit" jobs, but when it's written about a company you've followed for years it is very different

After taking a moment, reviewing the attacks and reflecting upon my own position I came away ... peaceful

I understand that this may sound odd but what it means is that investing can be a "contact" sport - SZYM has left itself "open" to these charges and someone is taking advantage - I saw it with KMI

This indicates the peak of bearishness - Now is the time to summon your poise and bearing and get in there if you trust your own DD

I believe SZYM will reward you and am at peace with this

Ben, appreciate your articles and am intrigued by your position with SSRI

When I compare with CDE, in most every way, I come up with CDE as winner

Would be grateful for your thoughts...

  • Opportunistic Trading Pushes Solazyme To New Lows [View article]
Even the most novice investors know the phrase "Sell when greedy, buy when fearful" and this is a classic example of why it's so hard to execute

It's interesting watching people grasp at straws when share price is down, assigning or groping for blame anywhere/everywhere

The market can be brutal and SZYM has been in cross hairs - there are no mysteries here - The shorts are simply trying to make money and taking advantage of the dynamics of this particular company, none of which have to do with its most salient fundamentals

Many of us will rue the day when we had the chance to have faith in our DD and validated progress of SZYM and heeded the age-old phrase mentioned above

  • Update: Sabina Gold & Silver Shows Progress At Its Back River Project [View article]
I understood it to be within 2 years - by then it's hard to believe silver won't be higher - it's a powerful value generator of Sabina and cannot be overlooked - the optionally is compelling and makes Sabina a buyout target (even currently) at any time for 2-4 times it's current share price

Does this take into account silver stream? That alone exceeds Sabina's current market cap I believe

Whole market is getting smashed - a cash flow-losing (currently) "speculative" no-margin equity is going to get the worst of it

If all that we've learned about SZYM these last few years is legitimate and accurate then the bounce will be as hard as the machine then weighing machine

Stock markets can collapse but commerce continues and the fundamentals I believe are solid and getting stronger

Bottom line - this is very tough on old shareholders but a gift to new ones....

but willing to pay a premium - in addition to WLT, back in PMs you have Osisko or even the explorers like Cayden

The industry obviously believes rightly or wrongly that this trough is temporary and as tough as it is for CDE right now they are capable of weathering this period and awaiting better Silver and Gold prices (as they are a dual miner) and earning back a "low" valuation in the 8-10 range

I do think we'll see something - when a company is as undervalued as CDE is the market notices and with the good liquidity in corporations, action is likely

Look at WLT - the big boys are circling and willing to pay a premium precisely because these are extraordinarly low prices

CDE is in a tough position but not desperate - And already the markets are showing huge discomfort with equities and dollar strength

There will be a flight to Precious metals and either CDE will be rerated by the market toward the 8-9 range or a cash rich major (and there are plenty) will snap this up for well under book value

It's amazing to watch what the market can do - just a couple months ago at 12 there was a sense that when Moema came online it would test 15 again - now here at 7 we wonder if it will ever go up again

What happened? The market! There were more sellers than buyers - all of us already had our shares and watched it go down etc etc

What is the correct value? - KQ put out a valuation a few months back at about the mid 13s which is where Goldman had it as well - that seems reasonable while we wait for production to hit stride and new partnerships/announcem... to develop

So now that the market has had its way with SZYM share price and the whole weak hands to strong hands ( re: opportunistic) thing etc etc the stock should climb back up to where we left off and then proceed from there to upper teens if the plan is well executed

The market is rational in long term marked by confounding vagaries in the short - SZYM in last few months a classic example.

  • Coeur Mining's Assets Are Worth Far More Than Its Current Market Cap [View article]
The current price (sub $5) is amazing - Even after rereading this entire thread and almost all other CDE threads, I can't understand a $500M market cap for this company

Practically no other miner has been as severely punished - This will be very interesting going forward - Will lower Silver prices push CDE into the low 4s or high 3s? Will higher Silver prices push CDE toward 10 again?

Will a big boy come shopping? At what price would CDE be bought out for today?

Somehow CDE has become one of the most hated (if not the most hated and shorted stock) in the PM sector - and I'm not exactly sure why

    - the purchase of LP? Won't they be sitting pretty when silver returns to mid 20s and is on an uptrend - does anybody dispute that?

    - the streaming deal with FNV at Palmajero? Ok not great but hardly catastrophic and recently improved

    - their Bolivian mine (not the best jusrisdiction) - more than offset with their US and Mexico assets - geez there are plenty of miners with inferior jurisdiction profiles

    - the name change and their HQ consolidation to Chicago? Ok I'm grasping at straws here

    - their increasing gold production (not as strong a silver play)? I consider this a strength and hedge as the diversification allows for price point optimization

    - their own and growing royalty model? Another diversifying and positive cash flow move that levers their decent cash position

Whatever the reason for such negative sentiment and perceived weakness - there is no other miner that offers better upside to a rising Silver price as CDE - so at $5.50 a share unless of course silver continues to fall which I don't believe that it will (I understand the current drop to be an overreaction to a temporary and unwarranted rise in the dollar) you have an extremely compelling entry point - I believe this share price would be fair at maybe $15 a share so downside should be limited

Again the bullishness is based on a belief that a rising silver price is imminent ( I mean Isnt Silver supposed to also be a bullish economic signal?) - the current economic strength is at best a step back from the ledge - to maintain meager growth additional Fed accommodation will be necessary in the form of low rates and some of QE

I believe in the innovation and resiliency of our U.S. economy but not its ability to sustainably overcome govt budget mismanagement, massive debt already spent, population growth and global natural and man made challenges...PM sentiment is unjustifiably bearish and is underowned

I've come to accept ( and even understand) the agenda of certain powers to pressure down Gold and Silver but it can only hold back the surge for so long - in my estimation even a higher dollar (unlikley - given the problems that creates) and stock market doesn't preclude the reversal and rise of the PM prices - people will certainly want to hedge against the eventual pullback of these manifestations of irrational exuberance....

  • Update: Sandstorm Gold Provides Investor Updates At The Denver Gold Forum [View article]
    Ernie Mac,

    1. SAND acheived $9.5M just last quarter

    2. That's what makes it investing - which direction makes most sense(although I accept that "sense" isn't always the short term). I am very much in agreement with this article:

    3. Agreed here which is precisely why SAND bought Luna shares and placed some one on Board - as for rest well if POG continues to fall they will all hurt but is this any different than development stage company?

    4. Price fixing is changing - central banks are buying right now and despite their influence if the retail investor of the world starts buying they cannot be resisted.

Mine development can take years and is costly and risky - SAND provides current cash flow with no chance of bankruptcy or dilution and the same optionally of explorer/developer, I.e. True gold, Entree Gold

Also don't forget the hidden value of metals and energy along with $200 M in cash/credit to unlock more value - who better to take advantage of these conditions?

I know it feels like Gold is going lower but at some point it will stop and turnaround - SAND could be back at 6.50 just as quick as it went from there to 4.2 - it did it before and could do it again because...immense money printing, currency devaluation, massive debt, derivatives, unfunded liabilities, dis functional govt, natural disasters, man made disasters....

    Ernie Mac,

I'll give your questions my best shot although there are others more knowledgable than I.

It has to do with your measurements of X revenue, earnings and book. These metrics and the attached "standards" shouldn't apply the same to streamers/royalties because the margins ($300 cash cost), FCF and risk profile are significantly better.

Additionally, as True Bull mentions, SAND in particular provides amazing optionality with a bedrock balance sheet.

Another way to look it at it: On 50-60k ozs (at around $1250), SAND operating cash flow approaches $50,000,000. How much would you pay for this company to achieve that? What if gold goes to $1500, $1700?

Finally, it all comes down to POG - Currently, it feels like Gold will go down forever, has no relevance or upside - all fundamentals have broken down - 2000, even 1500 is pie in the sky.

    But sentiment can shift rapidly...

It's about facts and fundamentals - if you don't agree that there is financial and geopolitical instability in the world then you don't need to invest in gold

I believe markets (even manipulated ones) eventually come to terms - I do agree that "the when" is the mystery...
