Market Gets Nervous About LCD Panels [view article]
I heard that LG is supposed to be introducing a 40 some odd inch OLED very soon... so if that is true then yes LCDs would be a short bet but they could easily make up in sales of OLEDs. This would make sense in that people are trying to make the stock an easier buy at a lower price to take advantage. Sep 03 05:04 PMOil Prices and 'Wash Trades' [view article]
tell me something i didnt know Jun 14 04:22 AMIt's Time To Rethink Copyright Law [view article]
Viacom doesnt have the higher moral ground..its all about money. I had a video ripped off of youtube during their nazi style seizures. It had nothing to do with them or their copyright..yet they sent me a DMCA notice claiming copyright violation! So its ok for the cops to kick down your door and claim the donuts in your fridge according to these people..maybe even taser you for good luck! I threatened to sue them for like 2 billion dollars..but its hard to get a good lawyer with a sense of humor. Ultimately to me it doesnt matter..because what the real problem is the United States.. everything is ass backwards.. so in my new view of things Google and Viacom are just as dangerous. If you think us Canadians are going to fall for that Coke Pepsi war bull anymore.. you better try again. Viacom - Google whats the difference??? hmmm... i should think about that lawsuit some more... once again... who sold eBay a nice chunk of their company??? the fact of the matter is that craigslist owners should sue themselves first for either being drunk or not being drunk. May 15 09:27 AMCraigslist Returns Fire in eBay Suit [view article]
im just trying to figure out if eBay will have to place their shares on Craigslist if they have to sell them.. or if they would do it in an auction format on eBay. Im thinking Craigslist would be way cheaper and better targeted for the buyers. ;) May 14 08:40 AMEBay and Craigslist: Fox in the Henhouse [view article]
I side with Craigslist out of contempt for eBay.. but realistically Craigslist and eBay are the same animals trying to claim to be different. Why did they sell the stake to eBay in the first place? That places them in the stupid column(if only craigslist had one) in the first place.
eBay hedged its bet with the stake while trying out the waters with their own version.
I agree it will just be another interesting item to watch.
Better yet I do believe that Craigslist could create a very interesting competitive auction platform once they unload eBay.
Everyone using everyone else for something..go figure! May 03 06:33 AM
Apple's $199 iPhone Is a Game-Changer [view article]
interesting comments.. i havent used my shuffle in probably close to a year. I would agree with both pro comments regarding iPhones and Blackberries. The business side of things tends to favour blackberries so i see bringing them into the argument as a non-issue. People used to brag about apples way back when extolling their greatness or superiority. For desktop publishing or graphics work that was the case. Then Microsoft caught the initial internet wave and steamrolled them. Apple is back and competition is a benefit rather than something bad. Any of you that dont believe that are lacking in perspective. Just as Apple has got the jump on the competition for now dont be suprised to see the tide change at some point. I would also question just how green your apple is... technology comes at a price and your electronics are one of the greatest polluters on the planet. If you are only interested in share price or usability.. well you might want to consider the usability or functionality of the planet. Hippies became yuppies. I hope that some of you might learn from the past..except youve mistaken the past for the future. May 03 06:23 AMWhy China's Exporters Are Complaining Loudly [view article]
continuum does have some valid points. I havent followed currencies and am wondering as to how the overvalued Euro as compared to the US dollar is faring. With the Euro worth more and im just guessing at this point that the RMB is tied moreso to the US dollar.. then a sinking US Dollar will hurt Euro way worse because of higher buying power for Chinese goods. This I find far more fascinating because the Euros are screaming about a sinking US dollar yet no one has really looked at why. Realistically it would be in the Euros interest to buy into the US and bring it up to make it less of a target for cheap Chinese goods which of course would wreak havoc on their own manufacturing sectors in a double whammy kind of way. just wondering.. I am always amazed that someone has the smarts to consider an area off most peoples radars. Considering railways like CN have done spectacular and will continue to do so.. then Shipping is just another link. I dont think fuel prices over the long term will hurt them as that is just added into their costs. People dont have a choice.. do you want it shipped or not? Im still disappointed that that massive hippodrome never happened.. whatever happened to that neat idea for dirigible shipping. That just seemed brilliant..and no need for coastal drop offs. I smell conspiracy... Apr 26 03:51 PMDeconstructing the Cramer Plan to Save the Economy [view article]
i completely agree. when will the time come that the banks and other scumbag ripoff artists who continually design these ponzi schemes are brought to account for their actions. Read another great article today in the Globe and Mail regarding Greenspans extolling these mortgage options for people. What is even more criminal is that the government is now using your tax dollars to further prop the market for awhile..when it naturally needs to deflate. there is something funny about swiss ethics considering that they take money from dubious sources worldwide which has propelled these companies to the sizes they are today.Lets just simplify this. If being ethical was a way to make lots of money like selling drugs is.. then they would be in the ethics business and that is all they would sell. red ethics..and blue ethics and you would have to make a choice on which one to swallow.
Let us hope that someone..someday might really become ethical. Jan 04 12:09 AM
Forecast for Accelerating Online Ad Spending in 2008 [view article]
I find internet advertising irritating. i cant remember if ive ever clicked on one to actually go through. Even more i wont even visit a site like Forbes that only seems to want to bombard you the second you click a news link. Of course you have to wonder how sensational the most mundane news will be made just to get you to view those dumb ads. Which then means that i will only take serious the companies that dont attempt to stick irritating ads in front of my face like some pimply teenager trying to get attention. Its ok with me as it makes it easier to know what sites provide quality news. Jan 03 11:55 PMGoogle: Valuing the King of Search [view article]
i was in a chat room and someone mentioned about how google had screwed him out of 130 or so bucks over his having adsense on something of his. It got me thinking.. i wonder if this is a common practice and if so how long until they get a class action suit. What is likely before that is an antitrust investigation. Every company that gets too big..and corrupted by the absolute power of having so much money that your mattress is uncomfortable. On top of that.. just wait till they try to get that radio automation patent through here in Canada. Y'know the one that was given to them on Dec. 25th 2007. Great idea.. not satisfied with a little slice of the pie lets just take everyones advertising dollar! The little problem comes further through in the patent when they start talking about sending advertising and radiogreetings.com messages to childrens toys. You see long ago here in Canada, very sensibly, it was made ILLEGAL to target children directly by advertising to them.
Googles use of a toy named "fluffy" in its patent is almost hilarious.
Not to mention..its just creepy. Jan 03 11:49 PM
MercadoLibre: The Next Baidu? [view article]
its great you know a lot about mercadolibre.. im sure jim cramer does too. Ive been looking through their listings since 2005. Never tried to buy anything but they have very interesting things pop up. Lets get something straight. We are talking about south america/central america mexico etc. your exhuberance for something in south america makes about as much sense as centros subprime foray into the states. canadian banks learned long ago about the pecularities of losing money betting on south america.sure it appears more stable today..but why would you want to place your bet on something dangerous. ebay also owns something like 20% of craigslist and if you think that they are going to make money off of that anytime soon than you will be the fool parted with their money. until many of those countries make the drastic changes they need to to join the first world anything and everything is a gamble. Consider too that venezuala is one of the countries in mercadolibres group of countries..now theres a good bet if your an american!!! So lets just say if you really knew what you were talking about you would know that there are some cool old american items on mercadolibre like Enterprise Coffee Mills or antique German Spectroscopes that you can only find a reference to in the Smithsonian. I would recommend the author take up butterfly collecting with Mr. Kramer except they would both be locked up in the loony bin. How many of you know of the trade in the early 20th century between south america and the united states. you would be suprised what you might find on mercadolibre. I dont even know spanish..but it can be interesting! sooo many old vintage autos down there too.. yup .. i dont think you guys know what your talking about. Jan 03 11:37 PM
Short the Loonie! - Barron's [view article]
that has to be one of the most dangerous pieces of advice ive seen given! The only way the Canadian dollar will sink is if a basket of commodities sinks. Canada is easily 1 year away from this at least. Tradition in the past in a recession is that Canada has followed behind the states in a time frame of a year. Oil, Coal, Gold, Wheat and other Grains would all have to suffer significantly to impact the Loonie. Jobs are robust in Western Canada while the manufacturing center suffers setbacks. That is due to poor government planning which allowed for putting all the manufacturing eggs into one political basket. We also have an excellent relationship with China and they will invest in Canada before the U.S. It is actually likely that we will see a massive spike in the Canadian dollar perhaps heading towards 1.20-30 because of the U.S. deterioration.
I do consider that 80% of our trade is with the U.S. and by far is our greatest trading partner. The fact of the matter is that if the U.S. is buying our resources as their dollar deteriorates this will only compound their troubles. I agree with the parity type numbers for now. My bet is that the Canadian dollar is being speculated upon by traders..before its last drop this was seen through postings that i believe are manipulating this fluctuation just as this article is. That is what really needs to be looked into. The Canadian dollar should not have swung so dramatically in the first place! Dec 31 04:15 PM
