Apparently Avi is posting new public articles but just not here on SA, so this would seem to confirm that he's gone from here, at least for the time being...

dverenes - are you referring to Markos?...

Markos has had a poor track record for accuracy over the time I've been reading his articles, and he seems to be primarily motivated by wanting to bash Russia. Not really sure why, since he's Greek and usually Greeks and Russians get along alright - both being Eastern Orthodox and all, but apparently not Markos.

His articles most consisted of either "that Big Bad Putin is gonna make gold rise" or "gold is gonna fall now in spite of the horrible Russians."

As I noted in one of my comments there, his articles weren't so much useful analysis, but more Two Minutes Hate ;-)

Thanks Gel. In the absence of any direct info anything is possible.

Some other commenters above seemed to think he had been banned due to fighting with others in the comment sections, which I suppose could be plausible if he had been warned about this previously....

I don't recall seeing anything from him which would strike me as grounds for being banned, but perhaps they have some tight rules here or a bunch of people complained or something...

He was being trolled quite heavily, and "fed the trolls" a lot more than I would have, but I just saw that as his discretion.

I guess it's still all just speculation and this point. Do hope to see him back before too long though :-)

Can anyone here directly confirm that Avi has been banned from Seeking Alpha?...

I've seen several rumors to that effect in the comments above, and even one argument about it, but don't seem to see any confirmation. It is certainly unusual though for him to go more than a couple days without commenting (it's been a week now) or for his weekly article to still not be posted by Monday with no explanation of the delay.

But perhaps some family emergency or something came up? Maybe his doctor said his blood pressure was too high so he needed a break for a bit? Who knows.

It shouldn't be to hard to get a direct confirmation one way or the other. I know that a number of the regular commenters here are also members of his private site elliottwavetrader.net. So they should be able to let us know if he's made some sort of announcement or comment there regarding his status on SA...

  • Calculating A Fair Silver Price [View article]
@TheRabble - "The true measure of inflation is the amount of currency that exists both physically and on paper (or electronically) divided by supply of currency at the initial point in time."

This is a very flawed method of accounting...

First of all, one has to look not just at changes in the total money supply, but also at changes in total production and real wealth. This includes everything from changes in the labor supply to technological advances which make the same amount of production possible with less labor, etc.

We also have to consider what's referred to as the "velocity" of money - at what rate is it actually circulating in the economy. For example, let's say the government printed several trillion dollars, but it was all given to one person, and he kept it all buried in a vault on his estate. This new money then wouldn't have any effect at all on inflation as long is it wasn't circulating. If/when he finally decided to spend some of it, *then* it would start to effect the inflation rate.

This is the main reason that all the QE hasn't had more of an effect (yet) on inflation - it's mostly either sitting as reserves in the banks or in the pockets of a few (already) very wealthy people who haven't increased their spending all that much, while most of the rest of the country is still pretty broke. If, OTOH, the Federal Reserve were to simply start mailing every American a check for $2000 every month, then we'd see some real inflation very quickly!

Some of us just like to chit-chat here from time to time.

Gotta do something to stay entertained while we wait for the metals to hit lower lows ;-)

  • What Does The Year 1941 And Gold Have In Common? [View article]
    @leopardtrader -

Thus far I've stayed on the sidelines of your debates here, but a quick question for you:

Why don't you start publishing weekly articles here on SA?...

I'm somewhat of an agnostic in this debate. Avi's shown some pretty good results over the past few years, but maybe you've got a better technique. It could well be that Avi's wrong and that gold will continue to fall much lower in the coming years. Perhaps your techniques of fundamental analysis are inherently superior to Avi's EW analysis.

So why not put this all to the test?

Start publishing weekly articles here which give your predictions for where precious metals will go in the following weeks/months. This won't take much more time and energy than what you're already putting into bickering here in the comments section, and I think this would be a much more productive use of everyone's time.

And then all of us readers can compare your results with Avi's for the next few months to a year or so and see who does a better job. What do you say?...

  • GLD Selling Only A Minor Factor In Gold's Selloff, A Bullish Omen [View article]
GLD isn't "real money," it's a toxic derivative. Only useful for short-term speculative trading. Not wise at all to use it as any sort of long-term store of value.

If anything, you'd be better off buying physical gold and hedging it against potential further losses by buying intermediate term put options on GLD.

  • GLD - Why Gold Won't Guard Portfolios Against Russia [View article]
LOL - No insights to be gained here about what direction gold is likely to go, but at least we get our requisite Two Minutes Hate against Russia and Putin!

That's the one thing Markos can reliably deliver ;-)
