    • Steve Jobs: Not Dead Yet [view article]
Lisa points out correctly that this article, while necessarily repeating the core of the issue, does question the additional 'instructions' relating to Apple stock price. That is just as unsettling as the initial 'mistake' and would only encourage the further sale of the stock. Aug 28 11:50 PM

Jack dee: "In fact would be more worried that 10 years from now GooG and MS will be in my bathroom making me boot up my toilet before I use it."

      Amen to that.

I want to have final say over what enters my living space. Autonomy is a valuable concept on the desktop and we need to be attentive to those 'features' that usurp our control. Ease of use can be paramount as long as the ability to go under the visible spectrum and tweak the OS is possible. That's why the Mac with its Unix base is my choice of platform.

Regarding allowing the 'cloud' to manage my resources, uh, no. Just last night my cable connection went out and was offline for hours. Without a local version of my OS and files I would be out of luck. The net is not reliable enough to trust either in efficiency or security. Until they offer some sort of real advantage, as do banks holding my money, I'll keep my OS and data at home.

    • Five Great Quality Companies: Are They Too Expensive? [view article]
@jackdee ..."There is room for Apple to grow its PC sales, but it will have to lower costs and cut margins if it wants to grab market share."

If you understand the recent actions and report by Apple you should see that is precisely what they are doing.

"MSFT owns the OS and will continue to do so for the near future, Apple is not going to take much market share until they create a robust flexiable OS. At the moment they simply do not have one."

Oh, my, you surely have not tried a Mac, have you? Nor read anything about its Unix base apparently.

"Apple is great if you dont care about money or being highly limited in software and hardware choices. "

This is an argument that may have been of use several years ago. No longer. Granted the hardware choices are fewer but you are getting a balanced platform that is aligned to the OS thereby resulting in fewer conflicts. That more than makes up for the so called lack of hardware choice. And there is plenty of software, more every day.
As for price, my niece recently specked out Windows machines vs a Mac and she was surprised to see that by the time she upgraded the basic Win machine to meet the Mac specs the price differential was non existent. And then there is all the Apple software that "just works". Any guess as to what she purchased? Oh, and she is "happy as a clam".

@bearfund: Yes, I also wish Apple would give a dividend. But they are using some of their cash evidenced by the purchase of the chip manufacturer P.A. Semi. Don't be surprised if you see new chips in future products that aren't Intel.

@Larry: "If Apple's Sustainable advantage was so good, then why did they go in the tank for over a decade?"

First of all you can't possibly compare the PPC and pre OSX days with now. Hardly. But there had to be something that kept Apple alive through all those "doomed" days where anytime Apple was mentioned it was with the word "beleaguered"... The fan base knew there was something worth supporting despite going up against a monopoly. Any other company would have died quickly under those circumstances.

Whether you think a stock is too expensive has to do with your short or long term outlook. If you are in it for the quick gain, then maybe so, but down the road you'll be wishing you had held on.

Aye, Steve is a "genius" and that's the ultimate chink in the Apple armor. I hope being long Apple will keep me comfortable in my retirement but I fear one day turning on the tube and hearing that something has happened to Steve. (knock, knock)

I understand his ego wants to leave the impression that it is solely he who is responsible for the success of Apple. However I wish there were some acknowledgment of others who could step in and keep the company on its innovative track. At least that would ameliorate a stock collapse if the worst were to happen.

    • Apple Joins Microsoft in Fear Factor; Look to Lenovo [view article]
You've got to be kidding. Some idiot is living in 'fear' because he is using a product that he hacked and is worried that it won't work the way he wants? Huh?
He's afraid iTunes will "brick" (word du jour) his iPhone? Or a new OS will give him some install difficulties?
It's obvious his guy has a Windows past. I guess what's really happening is he read a couple articles about some people having problems with their Apple products and he is having flashbacks to his days with Microsoft. Sad, really sad.

It's obvious you never spent much time with OS X or a recent Mac and are just posting this to further any interest you might have in Lenovo.
