  • The Traders Did It! [View article]
I believe the quote is more in the line of "it's always darkest before dawn." The idea that something is darker than when it is pitch black is illogical. Numerous cliches attempt to capture this though...

Once you hit rock bottom there's nowhere to go but up... Rainbows only appear after a storm... you can't laugh till you cry...etc.

You're implying that it's darkest before it gets darker ("pitch black"). Not possible.

  • Lower Revenue Cannot Be Masked [View article]
A lot of banks are trading at half of book because no one really knows what book actually is. This may be a good time to buy for the passive, long-hold crowd. But we're a long ways from "normal," so just because they're cheap now doesn't mean they won't be cheaper in the future.

Only one problem... Businesses are clearly stating why they aren't hiring. They're uncertain about the future, taxes are on the rise, and they're feeling pressure of high-priced commodities. No fluff or BS...straight from the horses mouth.

Phil - Our politicians waste every day. It's not just one side. I mean, the Dems had years to create a budget... But they wasted time pandering to unions for votes.

"Waste" is what DC does... Regardless of what side you're on.

"It doesn't matter if you vote democrat or republican... the government always wins."

THERE'S NO NEED TO SHOUT! And gold's price should tell you that investors are growing skeptical of further QE here at home. And if China and India are slowing as quickly as it appears, one could even argue there may be an flood of supply if they have to sell reserves for domestic stability. Gold is by no means some perfect asset destined to always march higher...

  • Friday Follies: What Percentage Of 12M Will Be Hired? [View article]
Demand doesn't just fall off for no reason, though. So by stopping at "...reduced demand and less jobs," you neglect to mention that reduced demand is related to lower consumer confidence, and that lower confidence is related to poor policy, and poor policy is related to incompetent politicians...
