Wow... Huge leap of faith there, Ted. When has the government EVER done anything with any resemblance of efficiency?

Gee... who would have thought all the years of high taxation and over regulation would lead CA right to the edge of disaster? What a shocker from the left coast.

Phil - Great technical analysis... but terrible political analysis.

It's not always left v right, GOP v Dems... Wake up. The real battle is that those who govern no longer have the consent of the governed. People are tired of the BS, both left and right. There's no need to defend politicians... they already use your tax money to do that. Division will NEVER result in unification.

From his wording, I take it he's not from America. His reference to Germany, and implication that their actions are correct, leads me to believe that he's from across the pond. Riddle me this... Who would follow any advice claiming Europe is doing it right? Have you not been on planet Earth the past couple years?

  • "We caution against mistakenly categorizing speculation as a form of manipulation," says the CME, responding to the President's proposals this morning. "To use margin requirements to control cash prices is misplaced ... (this) would make the markets less efficient, less tied to fundamentals ... push hedgers out of the market ... (and) make oil more expensive for all consumers."  [View news story]
Are you long or short a stock? Then you're speculating!!!!!! Good grief. It's not a bad thing... in fact its what makes markets, well, markets.

So the same must be true of Reid's inability to pass a budget... for YEARS.

Wrong on so many fronts. First, you frequently opine on both companies, so there's a connection, even if you don't mention it, tag it, or categorize it that way. Second, Pandora is SIRI's competitor, so perspective, especially with my "from a pure consumer standpoint" disclaimer, should be welcomed. Finally, readers are free to read or dismiss my comments... there's no magic gun waiting to come out the screen if they skip me.

And to finish, I'll suggest you check out a mirror when you claim I'm "not being respectful of the readers." Uh, hello? I AM the reader and your blasting my comments as bad etiquette? Seems like the pot calling the kettle black!

  • Ryan Detrick believes he's found another contrarian indicator to add to a long list suggesting stocks should continue higher: The percentage of "buy" calls from the sell-side on S&P 500 components has declined as stocks have gained. Not to defend the group, but might this be a logical reaction to share values 20% higher today than a year ago? [View news story]
Logic? In these markets?! Ha! Best one of I've heard all day!

  • Which Way Wednesday: 50 DMAs Face Tough Tests [View article]
Phil - Our politicians waste every day. It's not just one side. I mean, the Dems had years to create a budget... But they wasted time pandering to unions for votes.

"Waste" is what DC does... Regardless of what side you're on.

They weren't even able to pass one when they had both houses during O's first two years... Probably because they were too busy crafting the healthcare bill they crammed through. After all, you gotta pass it to know what's in it.

    Good article, Phil.

One point... You say, "the only realistic measure of our long-term budget outlook as it includes those "obligations" no one likes to talk about, like all the SS and Medicare and Retirement benefits that we've already promised to hundreds of millions of Americans."

I agree. So why in the world do you continue to defend the leftist spend, spend, spend mentality? You've correctly determined that it's unsustainable and a disservice to future generations, but then go support the party who is notorious at creating entitlement programs (like the aforementioned). I feel like I'm in the twilight zone.

  • House Republicans won't bring their "Plan B" tax-cut proposal to a vote tonight, as Speaker John Boehner says he doesn't have the votes; the House will recess until after Christmas. DJIA futures slip 0.2%. Boehner: "Now it is up to the president to work with Senator Reid on legislation to avert the fiscal cliff." Updated: S&P 500 e-Mini futures dive, limit down. [View news story]
Off the top of your head, who was Speaker during the Great Depression? Ok, now who was President? To all claiming this is bad for GOP, take a look at history. It's always the POTUS who people talk about and remember. Obama is the guy behind the wheel... and history will remember it as such.

You sound like complete morons blaming everyone but yourselves, who happen to be in charge. "Bush's fault" won't cut it these next four years. The left owns it (the economy and its problems, the debt, the wars, the scandals, etc) now. Good luck defying history and all things rational in your quest to implement your will upon those too stupid to realize it or too weak to resist it. When creditors come knocking and the farce comes to an abrupt halt, I'll be the guy saying "I told you so."
