  • Constellation Energy: Merger Arbitrage with Options  [View article]
Jack: You got hosed on this idea today. You didn't figure the instability and uncertainty that the new French deal introduced into the market. The enormous payout to MidAmerican is a thing of beauty. Nice return for the Oracle.

  • Who's Benefiting from the Agriculture Bust? [View article]
What would you say to IBA--a Mexican chicken and egg producer that is debt free and cash rich. It has missed its earnings but attributed to "input costs". It pays a nice dividend. Unlike SDA it has not had any (known) currency bets. It has been well managed by a controlling family. I suspect that this may turn out to be an opportune time to grab some shares here. I have owned this company for several years.

  • Seth Klarman, Meryl Witmer and Marty Whitman - Q2 2008 Portfolio Moves [View article]
IBA has only 50 M shares. It is a small gem of a poultry/egg/feed producer-distributer in Mexico. Dominated by a single family this is a modern company that is growing organically and by acquisition in an otherwise fragmented market.

  • An Energy Policy That Makes Sense, Revisited [View article]
Dude, can't depend on Congress they are inept. clueless lawyers who generally have never worked in the private world. An Xprize of say 50M for a really efficient solar cell say 50% efficient might spur things along, in the meantime solutions are in current solar, and geothermal, while we wait for any nuclear to come on line. See Scientific America Solar issue Jan 2008.
