What's Changed on the Seeking Alpha Website?
      Hi David,

You want the watchlists because of the info it gives *you*, right?
Most of us will have their watchlists somewhere else already.
I am with all the commentators that want the article stream as natural and free of editor preference as possible.
One feature that would help separating chaff from wheat would be a reader-rating system of both articles and comments.

Oil: Does Supply and Demand Still Apply?
This article seems to be part of the effort to talk the spot price down.

It is true that in the long term (say 15-20 years?) alternative energy sources will replace the demand for oil, and make it both cheap again, but in the mean time we do not yet have a hydrogen economy or a solar powered electricity grid yet.
Bringing new oil fields into production takes years and a huge investment. The oil majors need the high prices for the giga-investment needed for offshore exploration and production or for shale kerogen/oil conversion.

The Great Firewall of China Faces Challenge During Olympics
      Dear AlanG,
Communist state? Hardly. The old CCP is trying to manage the transition to economic freedom without repeating the chaos and looting that accompanied the collapse of the Soviet Union.
It is a tightrope act, worthy of an Olympic medal, if successful.
Independent courts would be the next step.
Information flows to those who know how to get it, just not to the broad masses.

Seven Reasons To Avoid Gold - And Why You Should Ignore Them
      Good article, Tim.
There is one thing that you did not touch on: continuing trust in the ability of the world's most well know banks to actually be able to withstand even a small percentage of withdrawals that do not flow back into the banking system, i.e. that are used to purchase precious metals for long term holding.

Safe Haven Investments Amid a Global Crisis
I agree with the author that it is time to load up on oversold PM's and their miners. Oil is bound to go up again and probably sharply.

But I *really* hate this loose talk about war, when a reasonable compromise with Iran on its enrichment program is perfectly possible.

War mongering in this day and age is utterly irresponsible. Hoarding Pd and Pt as a patriotic act (!).
The consquences of war for all of us, not just the Americans who will happily throw away the last of their civil liberties, are just too dire.

Interview with Nick Barisheff: Gold is Money
Good interview. Just one historical quibble:
"It [gold] was money that no government created by edict. It was just adopted for usage by itself, .."
Not quite. It was the king (government) of Lydia who got the idea to "mint" the electrum (gold alloy) that naturally occurred in his kingdoms' rivers, making his country and government wealthy by marketing the idea of coinage outside its borders.
This was the original monetization of gold. By government fiat. :-)

China: June CPI is Down, but PPI is Up
"The problem in 1989 was very high inflation and the threat was very real that there would be a revolution against the communist government."
Respectfully disagree. Revolt or uprisings, maybe, but a real successful revolution, such as the Iranian Islamic revolution, the October Revolution, or even the French Revolution needs years of underground preparation and the successful infiltration and persuation of the police and armed forces.
These was no such threat in 1989 in China nor is there any such threat in the foreseeable future.

A vapour article. It's only merit is that it provoked intelligent comment.
"we can expect to see Gold get very close to the $1000- $1200 mark in the next 6-12 months".

      Very close, eh?
