The wealth "earned" by families in their homes, had less to do with earning than it had to do with riding an artificial wave of monetary idiocy courtesy of Alan Greenspan. All most homeowners had to do was hold tight, take out home equity loans with which to make ever larger purchases, and mindlessly watch the pretty bubbles as they floated by. La di da.
