Bankruptcy Reform Act Finally Blows Sky High
I have long maintained that bankers are egregiously greedy and profoundly stupid. The whole subprime lending fiasco bears out my contention. Additionally, the much heralded, by bankers, new bankruptcy law is the icing on this cake.

Oil Crisis: Congressional Finger-Pointing Growing Old
The first step to correct this abominable situation is a to clean out Congress in the November elections. Every member of the House and those running for re-election in the Senate must be given the old “heave-ho”. No exceptions! Then, elect non-political replacements who recognize their mission is to straighten-out the mess and then leave. No careerists need apply.

Yeah, right! This will happen when Hell freezes over, global warming is recognized as a political ploy to raise taxes and make Al Gore richer than he deserves, G.W. Bush becomes a political genius, Barrack Obama admits he listened to all Rev. Wrights’ tirades and agrees with them, Hillary Clinton retires from politics, Bill Clinton admits he sold out the country to the Red Chinese, John McCain confesses that he is in the bag for the agribusiness’ need for cheap labor and has no intention to curb and stop illegal immigration, Michael Moore owns up to the fact that he is a propagandist and a liar, the courts stop legislating from the bench, the New York Times begins to report facts not fiction, MSNBC and NBC admit they are in the bag for the Democrat Party, women in TV take lessons and learn to modulate their speaking voices so they don’t sound like nasal ducks, and the American electorate stops marching to the polls in route step to re-elect the same clowns, election after election.

In other words, business as usual and the citizens take it in the shorts.

Foreclosures a Bigger Political Issue Than You Think [Housing Tracker]
This subject is becoming more political but not in the way framed by this article. Those who entered into mortgages they knew they could not afford and, eventually, would lose their new homes, have lost the sympathy of the American taxpayer and the electorate. This became the situation when Congress, in its infinite stupidity and propensity to pander in an election year, decided to interfere in the dynamics of the market, and use taxpayer money to bailout these morons and deadbeats.

If the issue is political, it is the negative reaction to the bailout, using the fiscally responsible taxpayers’ and homeowners’ money to pimp for votes. Although, the people of this nation may feel a modicum of sorrow for those losing their ill-gotten homes, they realize that these irresponsible, looking for something for nothing, temporary homeowners would, eventually, lose them through their inability to control their spending far beyond their means.

This ill-advised and useless spending of the taxpayers’ money has exacerbated the anger of the electorate toward Washington. Therefore, there will be a backlash in November but not because of foreclosures. It will result from the anger of the electorate against the clowns who believe they are capable of performing the duties of members of Congress.

Saving the Economy with IRA Funds
I could not believe that anyone from the world of finance would be making such a ridiculous proposal as has Stan Muse. Then, I read his bio and learned he has spent his adult life in the world of tech where most are dreamers of Nirvana, peace, and love. He but echoes all the silly proposals of the wacko left that, too often, come from this sector.

If Mr. Muse’s preposterous idea was to be enacted, we would have the same mess we have with the Social Security Trust Fund that the Congress has borrowed into near bankruptcy and is supporting with valueless IOU’s.

Stick to programming, Mr. Muse, and leave the real world problems to people whose feet are planted, firmly, on solid ground and reality.

      News That Moved Friday's Market
The problems driving the market and the economy into the doldrums is government. The clueless, incompetent, and stupid excuses for Congresspersons, both Houses and both Parties, are appalling. Until the electorate awakens to the mess these idiots have made of once great national economy and leadership, and kicks them out, the direction will continue downward. I recommend putting, at least, 40% of investment capital into cash, preferably, Euros.

As to waiting for a new administration in November, there is little “hope for change” for the better. If a Democrat wins the Presidency, expect massive taxes and a concerted effort to move the country toward socialism. If the Repubs dominate, little will change in the current situation. Now, is the time to come to the aid of the country with a viable, knowledgeable, dedicated towards We the People government and representation. Is there a Third Party that can provide this as the current two are hapless and ignorant?

Note to the electorate: Yes, your Congressperson is incompetent, stupid, corrupt, self-interested, and hapless. Just like all the others.

      Bond Trader: Friday Wrap
I can find all of this information in my daily newspaper. Treasuries are the least attractive investment to the serious investor. There is a lot more to the bond market than treasuries. Either expand the coverage to corporate bonds or find another outlet for your drivel. Stop wasting my time!

      Hardball in Vallejo, California
If you think the Vallejo is bad, you should take a look at neighboring Contra Costa County. There the Board of Stupes, literally, gave away the store and treasury to the County employees' unions. And, now, they are experiencing a growing deficit of tens of millions of dollars with no practical solutions in sight. Currently, they are, drastically, cutting County services to education, social programs, mental health, and shut-in seniors. This cutback will have little to no effect on the deficit and bankruptcy is looming in a very large county.

How is the electorate responding? In November, they will march in route step to the polls and re-elect the same stupid and corrupt politicians back into office. They will, again, prove that the basis of all government problems lies in the utter cluelessness and disinterest of the voters.

Have you noticed how the voters rail, curse, and foam at the mouth about government incompetence and stupidity and then re-elect the same crowd to office, election after election? Until the American public awakens from its self-imposed somnolence and throws out their corrupt and useless office holders, the problems will, only, get worse. Will this ever happen? Remember what H. L. Mencken said: "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public."

Rep. Kanjorski's Unreasonable, Unconscionably Ridiculous Idea
Remember people, you are ultimately, responsible for what happens in Congress. You elect and continue to reelect the same idiots, election after election. So, you must live with the consequences of your poor decision-making. And, yes, your representative is as corrupt and clueless as the next person's. Either change it or live with it. Your call.

Home Depot Slows Down Expansion; Still Losing Customers to Lowes
Home Depot needs an overhaul of their business plan. For instance: clean up their stores so they look less like a dirty warehouse and more like a business. Get their employees off their dear asses and out onto the floor assisting customers. Train or replace their in-store management people so that they have more than a clue about how to manage a retail environment.

Home Depot stocks almost the same products as Lowe’s, but HD's prices are much lower. If they would get their customer interaction on-track and alter the appearance of their stores, they would be much more successful than Lowe’s could ever hope to be with their outrageously over priced goods and services.

Perhaps the best place to start the overhaul is in the HD corporate hdgtrs. Fire the CEO and all the corporate officers and bring in professionals who are dedicated to their professions and less concerned with enriching themselves.

Let's Think Long and Hard About Extending Those Bush Tax Cuts
There is nothing more radical than the ideas of a born again liberal! The problem with the U.S. economy is NOT tax cuts, it's unfettered and irresponsible spending. What government must do is drastically curtail spending, particularly, earmarks and financial support for corporations such as Big Oil and unfriendly foreign countries.

However, don't hold your breath until congress acts on these much needed and practical matters. In order to inspire them, the voters must throw out the bastards, starting in November 2008. Replacements should come from a new third party dedicated to the desires and will of the electorate and the hell with the special interest lobby!

I won't hold my breath. As H.L. Mencken wrote: "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public." Watch them in November as the march in route step to re-elect the same idiots who have manufactured the current and past crisis and who will be responsible for future ones.

If anything needs to be done to save our economy and high standard of living, it is to further cut taxes, balance the budget, curtail spending, eliminate the "nanny" state, develop hydrogen for automobiles and home generation of electric power, return the use of farm products to feeding the people not fueling automobiles, stop illegal immigration, expose the fraud of manmade global, curb the abuses of environmental wackos, shut down Berkeley, eliminate funding for "sanctuary cities", and begin to act like adults instead of clueless spoiled brats.

Let me know when you have accomplished this and I'll give you some more guidance.

      The Prius Conundrum
This whole issue of energy conservation and green house gases is a fraud and scam perpetrated by wacko environmentalists and sanctioned by vote seeking/tax seeking politicians! The sooner the American people wake up and realize they are being scammed, the better the country will be. CO2 is a naturally occurring part of our atmosphere and is necessary to sustaining life. If you don’t realize that, you are incredibly ignorant and in need of a general science education. Read a book or go to school. Forget watching “American Idiot” on TV; it’s corrupting your intelligence.

If We the People, really, want to “green the planet” and provide non-polluting, abundant, and cheap energy, we must put a full court press on the clowns in Washington to adopt a national priority to develop the use of hydrogen to generate energy. It is a technology that is, already being used in Norway and can be implemented in this country in less than 10 years. You would have “on-demand” hydrogen to generate electricity in your home and in your automobile. Researchers at Purdue U. developed a process, last summer, that converts water to hydrogen, on demand, from water. Fuel cells for converting hydrogen to electricity already exist and can be greatly improved, quickly, if we have the will to do it.

The roadblock to this Nirvana of energy is the Big Oil/Utilities/governme... conspiracy to keep current, expensive, polluting, and oligarchy controlled systems in place. If the electorate of the nation doesn’t wrest control of their destiny from government and big business, it will continue to suffer and pay. It’s up to you.

Private Equity: Down, But Not Out
When CEO's spend $3 million on their birthday party in bad times, you won't find many investors lining up to put money into their organizations. this outrageous conduct occurred in the Blackstone organization just prior to them announcing a $170 million loss.

the problem with private equity funds is that they are run by egocentric, self absorbed people who have little to no conection with their investors or reality. I sold my BX stock this morning and I have no intention of ever venturing into that swamp, again!
